OCIE KING, 79, OF VIENNA, VA (FORMERLY OF TOLEDO, OH AND RALEIGH, NC) PASSED AWAY AT INOVA FAIRFAX HOSPITAL ON MAY 5, 2013. HE WAS BORN JULY 4, 1933 IN BROWNSVILLE, TN TO JOE AND VIOLA (HOPSON) KING AS THE 20TH OF 21 CHILDREN.
IN HIS ADULT YEARS, HE MOVED TO TOLEDO AND LATER MARRIED HIS WIFE PATRICIA KING ON JULY 7, 1977. HE WORKED FOR DOEHLER-JARVIS AS A TOOL AND DIE CAST ENGINEER, CHRYSLER, MATHER SPRINGS, AND PBX RAILROAD AS A TRANSPORTER.
HE IS MOST NOTED FOR HIS JOKES AND LAUGHTER , PLAYING CARD GAMES BID WHIZ AND SPADES (AND TALKING "SMACK" WHILE DOING SO), AND TRAVELING. HE SERVED AS THE "NEIGHBORHOOD MECHANIC" IN THE OLD WEST END DISTRICT—ALWAYS WILLING TO PROVIDE RELIABLE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR WHOMEVER NEEDED IT.
OCIE WAS WELL KNOWN AROUND TOLEDO AS A BASEBALL COACH SINCE HE COACHED SEVERAL LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAMS FOR MANY YEARS. HE LOVED THE GAME AND SPENDING TIME COACHING THE YOUTH.
HE SERVED THE LORD AS A MEMBER OF EASTERN STAR BAPTIST CHURCH AND LATER JOINED NEW HOPE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH IN TOLEDO. AFTER HE BECAME SICK AND SHUT-IN, HE ALWAYS MAINTAINED HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING WIFE OF 35 YEARS PATRICIA KING, SISTER VANZILLA POTTS, CHILDREN: CHUCK, DEBORAH, JAMES (ELOISE), JANICE, JEANIE, KEITH, KENDRA, LETITA, LINDA, MARSHA, MARY ANN (DECEASED), MICHAEL, MYRON, OTIS, PAUL, ROCHELLE (AL), SHAWN, SMITTY, SOFIA, TIVILEY (ROYCE), AND YAEUNDA (CHARLES). HE CHERISHED AND WAS BLESSED TO HAVE HAD A HOST OF RELATIVES INCLUDING GRAND, GREAT, AND GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILDREN WHO LOVED AND WILL MISS HIM.
