Dr. William Z. Slany
On Monday, May 13, 2013, at age 84, died unexpectedly at home in Reston, Va.
For the last 18 years of his career, he served as The Historian of
the U.S. Department of State. Previously, he served as General Editor of the Foreign Relations of the United States series, and as Deputy Editor. He served as chief editor and coordinator of two interagency studies on Nazi Gold and other assets. He was committed to making available the record of U.S. foreign policy and diplomatic activity. Beloved by his brother, Charles Slany, his nephew and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Olga, and brother, John. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 14, at Temple Sinai, 3100 Military Avenue, N.W. at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at the Garden of Remembrance in Clarksburg, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the ASPCA or to the American Heart Assoc.
