My heart hurts for your family. I am so very sorry that you have to go through this loss. I hope your family is able to find some solace in the light and kindness that Ricky brought to the many lives he touched. My boy, Nathan forgot his lunch at home a few months back and he didn't have any money on his lunch account. Ricky let him borrow lunch money. Ricky was so excited when we returned from Pamplin Park last week. While he showed me the reproduction money he purchased, he told me it was his favorite field trip ever. I am so happy my son was able to know Ricky. Your family will be in our prayers.

Ricky, Mom, and I went to the library in Sterling,VA. And when we were done with doing our library stuff we left the building and we saw a great huge firetruck out front. We went up to the firefighter and asked what was going on and the fireman said that they were just there to show kids around the firetruck and teach them about fire safety. Ricky and I thought that was pretty neat so we got inside the firetruck and the fireman showed us different things in the truck and told us what they did. Afterwards we got a plastic firefighter hat and we ran around and acted silly while Mom took pictures of us.

Ricky was always so full of energy. I've been at a loss for words this past week. Nothing prepares one for the loss of a loved one even though part of living is dying, but no one expects it to happen so early in life. Ricky was such a special and wonderful child. One year I sent him dinasours for Christmas and his Mom said he just screamed and screamed when he got them he was so excited. I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet, sweet boy. Ricky was an amazing kid who had such passion. I will miss our morning talks when he would tell me about the newest book he was reading, a good movie he saw, or anything else he was excited about. He had such a kind, sincere heart, and always expressed genuine concern for others. His laugh and smile was contagious, he made you forget all your troubles. Tonight I learned that Ricky helped a member of the janitorial staff at his school. He reached out to her by speaking Spanish and helping her move chairs in the mornings. This was not something Ricky talked about; yet a private act of kindness. I know there are so many other lives he touched in a positive way. I wish he could have understood how cherished he was by so many people.

Words cannot describe how sorry I am. I knew Ricky for 2 years and his passing has deeply affected me and everyone lucky enough to be around him at Armstrong.
