Obituary of James Luther Viar

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Luther Viar was born on August 5, 1927 outside of Charlottesville, Virginia to Robert E. and Fannie Jane Viar. He was one of fourteen siblings and is survived today by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. James was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Mary Belle and father to his daughters Sandra Jane and Pamela Sue. The family moved to Herndon, Virginia in 1953. He taught us about hard work and the importance of family. He was an example to everyone of how you can be successful if you work hard and treat everyone fairly and with respect. James retired after 31 years from Safeway stores and later he and Mary retired to their new home in Berryville, Virginia. When you think about him the things that come to mind are: hard worker, caring, humorous, faithful, respectful, storyteller, cherry tobacco (he loved his pipe), gardener and family man. These are just a few things that come to mind, but it is impossible to summarize how great a person he was in words. Talk about how special it is that we have had him in our lives for so long - son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather - we have all been able to spend so much time with him over the years. We know that many people are not as lucky and we are all blessed to have learned so much from him. He taught us about hard work, determination, the outdoors and a love for friends and family. James is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Sandy and Sue, and their husbands Paul and Dave. James was known to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Pop" and he leaves them to cherish fond memories filled with laughter and lots of stories: his granddaughter Dawn and her husband JP, along with their children Reagan, Hannah, Abigail and Kate; his grandson Daryl, his granddaughter Carrie, and his grandson Wesley. Pop will meet again, in peace, his late granddaughter Michelle. One day in the future we will all meet again. Until then, we can all continue to pass down everything he taught us to our children and future grandchildren. We thank him for being such a wonderful person to us all - will will miss you and love you always!
