Obituary of Douglas James Nelson

Douglas J. Nelson, 65, of Sterling Va passed away June 9, 2013 at Virginia Hospital Center after a two year battle with cancer. His last days were spent with family and friends by his side. Born November 3, 1947 to Douglas J and Lucille E Nelson. Doug was a Vietnam Veteran in the U.S. Air Force. Doug enjoyed hiking, camping, canoeing, sport shooting and telling stories. He especially enjoyed hanging out at Cafe J drinking and grilling in the company of fellow boaters talking late into the night. He was a life member of the NRA and member of the Prince William Yacht Club. Doug was a loving husband to Maureen Nelson (Oakley) and father to Brian (Gina) Nelson of South Riding VA, Jeremiah (Lorelei) Nelson of Leesburg Va, Jennifer (James) Nelson of Ashburn VA and Ben (Amanda) Nelson of New Burn NC. Grandfather of Calie, Julius, Myla, Michaela, Dominic and with Nollan and Lily on the way. He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, John and Ricky. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Adams Green Funeral Home 721 Elden St. Herndon VA Funeral Services will be at noon on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Trinity Presbyterian Church 651 Dranesville Rd Herndon VA Burial will be at Quantico National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 11 am In memory of Doug contributions can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
