Obituary of Sarena Lyn Carroll

Sarena Lyn Carroll passed away on June 24, 2013 at the age of 24. Born on October 30, 1988 in Los Angeles, California, she is survived by her mother and father, Ellen Gedro and Randall Carroll of Great Falls, Virginia, her brother, Captain Randall ("Taylor") Carroll of the United States Army and his spouse Tiffany Venutto, and her younger sister, Elianne Carroll, a rising Junior at Virginia Tech. Sarena is also survived by her paternal grandparents, William and Emma Jane Carroll of Williamsburg, Virginia. Sarena also leaves behind a beloved long-time partner in Ben Finch of Ashburn and her precious canine companion of nearly ten years, Cody. At the time of her death, Sarena had been quite ill for some time but, when last in good health, she was an outstanding saleswoman at several local clothing boutiques and craft supply stores reflecting her love of fashion and artistic expression. She is a graduate of The New School of Fairfax, Virginia where she performed in leading dramatic roles, advanced her artistic skills and excelled scholastically. This combination of strong academics and leadership in extra-curricular activities attracted the attention of many colleges. She ultimately enrolled in Drexel University qualifying for a Dean's Merit Scholarship Award but, unfortunately, she later was compelled to withdraw from school due to illness. Sarena loved to travel and had been all throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Mexico and The Caribbean mainly on family trips that are the source of joyous memories for her survivors. She also loved cooking, music, dance, and art all of which she excelled in. As early as first grade, Sarena was known for performing Wynona Judd's Tell Me Why in public.
