I was Jim's executive assistant for several years when he was the SVP and CTO at QuadraMed in Reston, VA. Jim was one of the most genuinely caring and nicest people anyone could ever wish to meet.
Jim had a great sense of humor and I aggravated him as often as I got a chance; he seemed to not only enjoy the mischief, but actually looked forward to it. In fact, whenever April Fool's Day rolled around he knew something was going to happen and would let me know he was expecting it. I remember bringing him a cup of coffee every morning. One April Fool's Day I bought two cups of coffee...one was the way he liked it...the other I added a couple of teaspoons of salt. I put two creamers and sugar on top of the salty one and set it on his desk. He said "I can't believe you haven't done anything to me today". I replied that the day wasn't over yet. About 2 or 3 minutes later I heard a very loud, stern "SUSIE!!!" from his office...then laughter...and then he came out and gave me a hug and told me I had gotten him good that time. Another time an accomplice and I taped a remote-controlled whoopee cushion under his desk. We sent someone else in to talk with him while we pushed the button from my desk causing a disgusting noise. Jim was deaf in one ear so he never heard it...until we snuck in and moved it to his tissue box...he heard it then!! LOL Once I put scotch tape on the outside of his coffee cup with the sticky side out. Have you ever seen a cat with tape on it's paws? Well, Jim was sitting at his conference table talking to someone and he looked just like a cat shaking it's paw...and he never missed a beat of the conversation!
I am so saddened to learn of Jim's passing, especially since I didn't even know he was ill. He was such a great man who loved his family dearly. He often spoke of his son and daughter-in-law, his daughter who was a student at Villanova, and especially of his wife whom he adored. He once told me he knew the secret of a long and happy marriage. He said that every day when he went home and walked through the door he would always say "I'm sorry" for whatever he did, might do, or didn't do at all. I never forgot it.
I know Jim will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him, but I also know that there is a special place in heaven where he is now, watching over his family with more love and devotion than anyone can imagine.
My deepest sympathy to Jim's family, may God bless you all and may you find peace in all the memories you have and the promise of being reunited again. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.
Best regards,
Susie

A quick flick into laughter. A bright sparkle always in his eye. An intelligent influence on me; one of his college friends. A special college friend was he. A light hearted person with instant attachment and grasp of what you were talking about. A person with love of life through college and forever. A great sense of humor. That sparkle, that anticipation of a good time, of laughter, and of a hug coming from someone who ment it. Never acted, or put on, genuine friendship hugs they were. He was a big part of our college developement. Too soon, too young. Thank you guys, Luanne and Jim, for coming to NY to see me that time. I will never forget him. May God Bless him and his family who carry on his legecy through time. You know he had and has the love...

In a sad time, I’ll choose to remember some fun stuff… from our undergraduate days at Villanova (watching you both ride away on the motorcycle), to playing board games in your DC-area apartment, to our Bay of Fundy/PEI vacation, to being invited to start a career in MUMPS in Tampa where almost immediately we were treated to Dutky returning to your house with a pork sausage that he claims was tossed into his car while driving down the street (picture that), to Jim bringing Jenny and her college friend from VA Tech to a VU basketball game where they sat in the midst of the enemy and had their homemade team poster torn to bits by the fans in my section – whereupon Jim replied “isn’t college great?” Nova basketball has lost an avid enthusiast. RIP Jim - Bob and Allie

Jim was one of those folks whose presence was felt as soon as he walked into a room. His energy and enthusiasm for most everything was second to none. I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to know and be influenced by him and will carry as much of his energy with me. LuAnn and family, please know we are thinking of you! Scott

It was easy to see that his family was the cornerstone of his life and that he fully enjoyed it. You all are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Please call if there is anything I can do. (except bring you dinner- apparently that goes straight out of my head). Hugs and love, Eileen and Hayward

I worked at Quadramed with Jim and shared a lot of good times and stressful times but Jim always made me laugh. He was at his best when he talked about his children and grandchildren. I remember him coming to work after a few days off and telling stories about babysitting the grandbabies and over the course of a few days he watched every episode ever made of Dora the Explorer. Good times. Jim was kind, funny, and extremely smart. During one of our executive staff meetings when out of the blue he recited the Ride of Paul Revere. Needless to say we stunned and impressed! Jim was one of those few people you meet in life who leaves such a positive impression.
