I grieve still for the loss of Allen. It was a joy getting to know him attending while many of his CRS classes through the years. He made me a better person, a better realtor and brought so much joy to this life. After a while, I became a bit of an "Allen Groupie", planfully attending conferences where he was the instructor in various states. There was a gentle kindness, an inspirational quality. What an amazing man. The world is so much better for his having been here.

Allen F. Hainge knew how to make an entrance.
At the 2005 CyberStars Summit in Phoenix, Allen arrived outside the conference center riding a huge Brahman bull. That entrance kicked off a powerful three days where the CyberStars - an international group of top real estate agents who use technology extensively in their businesses - shared what they were doing, why it worked (or didn't) and exactly how to use it.
Allen founded the Allen F. Hainge CyberStars® in 1995 and was one of the leading technology trainers in our industry for decades. He passed away at 69 on August 29, 2013, after a 13-year fight with prostate cancer.
Allen also knew how to make an exit.
Last October, the last time I saw Allen, he and I went to lunch on Lake Anne Plaza near his condo in Reston, Virginia. Allen took us to Café Lakeside inside the Lakeside Pharmacy. To my surprise he walked with a cane and carried a cushion. "Not as much padding as I used to have," he joked. Allen was noticeably thinner. As always Allen bantered with the lunch-counter owners from El Salvador. Waiting for our lunch (quesadilla for Allen, club sandwich for me), he joshed with three silver-haired ladies at the next table who turned out to live in his condo building on lower floors. "If I was twenty years younger, I'd have struck up an introduction way before this," he teased. They laughed and promised to turn up the music next time they threw a dancing party, and he could come on down.
As we chatted, Allen asked about everyone we both knew, name by name. And, especially about my wife, Synnove, and our new consumer publishing venture, SmartEssentials.com. "If I know you," he told me, "it will be a success." As he always did, Allen put others first.
After lunch, we walked back toward his condo by the shore of Lake Anne where he loved to fish for bass and show others how to catch fish. Allen said he had decided recently to end all further medical treatment for his cancer. He said he had just gone on "palliative" care. When I asked what the doctor's expected, Allen replied, "Two months or two years, nobody knows."
Then he stopped. Without missing a beat, he turned to me and said, "One thing I do know. I've been truly blessed to have good people and good friends like you and Synnove in my life."
Here was my friend, telling me he was getting his affairs in order with not long to live and he was telling me he was blessed. As Allen always did, he made you feel like you were someone truly special in his life. He had no complaints. No regrets. Just a spirit as large as his life and as significant as the impact he had on thousands of real estate professionals who attended his seminars - and who implemented his "money-making tips" and prospered from his "Secrets of the CyberStars."
All though he said he was blessed to know us, in fact, we are the ones blessed by his expansive, sharing spirit…and we are the ones blessed to have known Allen Hainge.

It is a sad day, yet a day to celebrate knowing that Allen has found his ultimate serenity place. If you had the opportunity to visit him in Reston, he would have told you he was "enjoying ..(his).. serenity". He was happy and he was definitely a strong willed fighter. He encouraged many of us with his daily Facebook messages...and we even got to find out a little bit about politics along the way :)
I know he never wanted us to see him in pain, or struggling. In fact, he looked great every time I visited him, He looked so good, that little trickster made me honestly believe he wasn't even sick. Every time I was there he looked great and had great spirits. He definitely beat all the odds and stayed with us 3 years longer than the doctors told him he would. It was really great to visit him in Reston several times, and thanks to all the CyberStars that pulled off his birthday surprise and all the other visits. A very special thank you to James Nellis, his team and Amy for giving us an incredible gift at the last Summit, the video message to the group and re-enforcing what this group is all about.

So sorry for our loss, he was a Prince and a wealth of knowledge that he always shared. Took my first technology CRS class from him in Cleveland. At that time he shelped computers and printers so we could work together. Gave me his home number and told me to call when I was ready to buy a computer and would help me. As he did with all of you, Allen made me feel "special". A timid Realtor from West Texas, I took that CRS 'technology class' in 1997 in Austin, TX, feeling VERY intimidated by all the geeks (and geek wannabes) in the class. Allen was the teacher, but, so much more than that, he was the inspirer, the encourager, and the kindest, funniest, neatest guy! I got up the nerve to ask him for the name of a webmaster -- and he put me in touch with Sandy Teller, who has been my webmaster to this day. It was several years later that I got up the nerve to ask to join the CyberStars -- and he was so warm and gracious and invited me right in - and for the chance to be part of such a remarkable bunch of great folks, I will be forever grateful. Of his many gifts, the gift of believing in people and encouraging them to do more than they ever thought they could, making everyone feel "special", may be the gift by which I will remember him best.

I, too, am disappointed to lose two very special men within a short year's time... first Howard Brinton, and now Allen. Both were amazing leaders in the real estate industry and both touched many lives, yet were always very down to earth. They always took the time to make each of us feel special. That is a unique gift.
