Klara M. Rusnak
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at home in her sleep September 21 after a brief but devastating battle with cancer.
Born in Glaserhau, Slovakia July 22, 1932 Klara's family was reunited in Stuttgart after being separated during the war. She met and fell in love with Albert Rusnak, and they came to this country in 1958. She used to tell the story of how she learned English by watching I Love Lucy on TV. We would laugh and think how close she came to speaking English with a German/Cuban accent.
Klara quickly settled in and embraced her new country while still cooking spaetzle and goulasch dinners every weekend throughout her life. In addition to making a fabulous poppy seed strudel, she was also an outstanding seamstress and helped her granddaughter Riley with designing and finishing clothes for the annual Langley Fashion Show even up to the year before she passed away.
Klara loved to garden and surrounded herself with flowers, all kinds and all colors. She also loved nature watching and pet sitting her grand-husky Sasha. She could always be counted on for walks, rain, snowmageddon, you name it and you'd see Klara out there with Sasha.
She is survived by her husband Albert, daughters, Cordy Galligan of Great Falls, VA and Doreen Rusnak of Ashburn, VA, and grandchild Riley Galligan at college in Philadelphia. We are very fortunate that one of the last things she did before she became ill was help move Riley into her dorm for her freshman year at college. (Doing quite a bit of the heavy lifting!)
Please come help us celebrate this wonderful life. The funeral will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Sterling, VA on Saturday, September 28th at 12 noon with a viewing in the chapel from 11-12.
