Obituary of Mildred E. Gallo

Mildred Kanozik Gallo, 88, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2013, at home with her family. Born in Port Chester, NY December 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Matlok) Kanozik.
Mildred grew up in Port Chester, New York where she lived until she met her future husband Samuel Gallo. She was married to Sam on November 27, 1947; they were married 49 years, before Sam's passing in 1997. They lived and raised their family in Stamford, Connecticut before moving to Orange City Florida after retiring in 1996.
Mildred worked for the Stamford Public School cafeteria systems at Stark Elementary School and Dolan Junior High School before moving to the Darien Public School Cafeteria system where she worked for a combined 30 years at Hindley Elementary School and Middlesex Junior High School as the cafeteria manager for both schools. Mildred (Aunt Millie) also worked at Camp Playland in New Canaan, Connecticut for over 30 years each summer.
Mildred is preceded in death by her six siblings Ann Dickenson, John Kanozik, Frank Kanozik, Rose Epps, Mary Bova, and Joe Kanozik.
Mildred is survived by her two sons, Guy Gallo and wife Debbie of Stratford, Connecticut and Tad Gallo and his wife Bonnie of Sterling, Virginia. She is also survived by her five grandchildren which she adored, Kyle Gallo of Morgantown, WV, Stacy (Gallo) Kress and her husband Russ of Sterling, VA, Bryan Gallo of Sterling, Va, Guy Gallo, Jr. and his wife Diana of Shelton, Connecticut, and Amanda Gallo of Stratford, Connecticut. Mildred is also survived by her two great granddaughters who she treasured, Kelsie Kress and Zoey Gallo in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Private services and burial will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mildred's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Evercare Hospice and Palliative Care of Reston, Virginia, and their employees for their support in her final days.
