Obituary of Joyce Diane Cushman
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Diane (McGarity) Cushman went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2013. She was born on September 24, 1956 to Roland and Ida (Wine) McGarity. She is survived by Richard Cushman, her beloved husband of 24 years, her two precious dogs, Sugarplum and Snuggles, and many cousins. Diane grew up in Great Falls, VA, and graduated from Herndon High School. She retired from the Human Resources Office, U.S. Geological Survey, after more than 30 years of service. While serving as an Administrative Clerk at USGS, she was a member of the USGS employees' musical group, "GeoSounds." This group performed at the Leadership, Enrichment and Disabilities Conference held in Reston, and also at several other agency functions including a memorial service for one of Diane's co-workers.
Diane and Richard were married in 1989 at the Dranesville Church of the Brethren where she was a lifelong member. Her parents and other family members were charter members at Dranesville. Diane's father, Roland McGarity, and uncle, Howard Crider, made the lighted cross that hangs in the Dranesville church sanctuary. She enjoyed singing and playing the organ. Diane loved the Lord Jesus, and had a compassionate heart. She was diligent in keeping in touch with family and friends, and always expressed her willingness to keep others in prayer and to help out whenever she could. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
