Obituary of Bernard Eugene Price
Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernard Eugene Price of Sterling, VA., passed Monday, January 13, 2014 due to complications from congestive heart failure. He was 73 years old. He is now rejoicing in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was born on November 25, 1940 in Bluefield, WV, to Paul and Roberta Price, who preceded him in death.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Bernard is survived by his dedicated wife of over 50 years, Shelvie Hall Price; three wonderful children, Tammy and her husband Jim of Sterling, VA., Rick and his wife Cheryl of Albemarle, NC., and Sherry and her fiancé Snowden of Fredericksburg, VA; seven magnificent grandchildren, Brittany, Bailey, Kaitlin, Brice, Brandy, Matthew, and Lexie; and two loving sisters, Joyce and her husband Ottie of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Betty and her husband Eddie of Princeton, WV, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
"Bernie" was a hard-working, honest man who believed in doing things "the right way." In 2000, he retired from 36 years in Local 77 as an equipment operator. He was proud of every year that he worked in the union. Before that he worked many jobs, and loved sharing stories with his family about his experiences.
He was well known for being skilled with his hands; if Bernard could take something apart, there was no doubt he could fix it and put it back together. His passion was restoring antique automobiles including his pride and joy, an award-winning red 1956 Ford pickup truck that he completely rebuilt. He loved to spend any spare time tinkering with his truck.
Bernard was stubborn and a bit sarcastic at times. He wasn't afraid to let you know that he wasn't a saint. And he loved practical jokes. Yet he could engage anyone, anywhere in conversation and laughter. He knew no strangers. Bernard was a friend, father, and "Papaw" to everyone he knew and will be greatly missed.
