It's a year already since Bob passed away. Odd, because I have not really missed him. Sure we had not seen each other for some years, perhaps that makes it easier. Perhaps it's because when we were both soldiers we saw a lot of death during our service together. Or perhaps it's because, having been friends you never loose contact, time and distance, life and death are not obsticles. Family, if you have not already done so, read 'There's no such place as far away' by Richard Bach and of course Johnathon Livingstone Seagull. Both books are very enlightening as to what drove us in life and why death can not separate us. Sleep well Bob, old buddy, as ever we are not far behind you.

My Brother Robert MAC or Bob as some knew you. Words cannot explain the pain I feel for the loss of you. But what I can say is I am so proud to be you Sister. Thankyou for always looking out for me, For always slipping my friend & I some money to get rid of us when you brought your crazy Para friends home (Why was that I wonder!). Thankyou for the fun we had in Ireland at Ballykilner and other places you lived and worked. Thankyou for taking myself mum and family out to Americia when you had settled for many of trips. You wouldn't let us pay for anything. Thankyou for being so strong and dignified in spite of your illness, not letting it stop you from getting around or doing what you wanted to do. When you should of stopped work you didn't right till the end (Man you was stubborn!) Where most people would have given in. It was an honor to be with you during the last 2 weeks to hold your hand, rub your head, move your pillows, spill tea over you (sorry!), Sorry for nearly launching you out the bed a few times! We all had a laugh just the way you would have wanted it. Lastly it was an honor to meet and speak with your loyal friends, workmates and the boss himself. They all spoke so highly of you and had lots of respect for your loyalty, confidentiality, friendship and your standard of commitment to your job in order to keep all around you safe. -- Love you FOREVER Your Younger Sister Jenny xx

I remember being on operations in bandit country with Bob and chatting about this and that. We were all cream crackered so he and I were discussing the danger of one of the guards falling asleep and how that could endanger all of our lives. It was often freezing cold and most guys, even on stag, wrapped themselves up with everything that they had, so that they didn't freeze. This of course led to the danger of being comfortable and so falling asleep. I suggested that we, as patrol leaders, should take the lads a flask of something hot to keep them sharp. Bob came up with another suggestion, something that he had done himself for ages and it worked: He suggested, instead of making oneself comfortable, one should sit on the edge of an uncomfortable rock; if you then fell asleep, which because of the discomfort was most unlikely, you would fall over and so wake up again !
This might sound crazy to somebody who has had a comfortable life, but for me it was pure genius. I always felt safe in Bobs company, knowing that another professional soldier was at my side. In my opinion there were few as good as Bob McNally, may he rest in eternal peace.

Bob was my best man for my wedding to my wife Jean April 9th 1977, on the way to the registry office in Coventry, Bob told the taxi driver to stop outside this pub opposite the registry office.
"We'll have a wee drink in here Smokey it's a bit early" when we walked inside the pub was full of our 6 Platoon mates & other PARA mates all dressed in Dennison smocks and OG's with berets on heads, all of my family lived in Australia so none could be present at the wedding, Bob had arranged for my extended family to be there and wearing their kit, what a great surprise.
It cam to the part in the ceremony that the registrar had to say "if anyone know why these two should not be married" etc etc and Bob says "yes I do" he stepped forward put my beret on my head and told the registrar "you can carry on now" the look Jean and her mum gave him ha!!

One of the most difficult things to deal with in life is the death of a loved one. Even for a Christian, death is a part of life. We don't see death as an ending; we see death as a passing, the passing of our soul from the body. For as much as we know death is inevitable we are never quite prepared to deal with it. When we are overcome with grief sometimes we can find comfort and healing in the words of others. I pray that this poem will bring you some comfort and help us all through this grieving process it's titled Don't cry for me. Don't cry for me now I have died, for I'm still here I'm by your side. My body's gone but my soul is here, please don't shed another tear. I am still here I'm all around, only my body lies in the ground. I am the snowflake that kisses your nose, I am the frost, that nips your toes. I am the sun, bringing you light, I am the star's, shining so bright. I am the rain, refreshing the earth, I am the laughter, I am the mirth. I am the bird, up in the sky, I am the cloud, that's drifting by. I am the thoughts, inside your head, While I'm still there, I can't be dead... Goodbyes are not forever, Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I'll miss you, Until we meet again! RIP Mac

To my Dear old Friend you are not alone. One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord,"You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?" The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints, is when I carried you." RIP BOB
