Obituary of Barbara Jo Pletzke

Barbara Jo Pletzke (aka Posic, nee Layfield), 60, passed away peacefully on February15, 2014 at her home in Herndon, VA, after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in Clarksburg, WV in 1953, the daughter of the late Lindsey Layfield and Ruby Layfield Saccone. She was preceded in death by her sister, Debra Layfield. Barb enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, cruising, cooking, and entertaining. She passed her love for cooking to her daughter Jaime. Barb shared her always tasty recipes with her many friends via her "Recipe of the Week" emails and frequently posted her reviews of restaurants via Trip Advisor. Barbara authored several cookbooks for family and friends and published numerous recipes in various magazines. She was a graduate of Victory High School, class of 1971, of Clarksburg, WV. Barb retired from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 1996 with 25 years as a support officer working in the Directorate of Science and Technology. After retirement, she worked part-time for defense contractor CACI until 2009. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Carl, her daughter Jaime Pletzke and her spouse Katrina Ganoe of Gerrardstown, WV, her stepson Gregory Pletzke of Centreville, VA, and his daughter Sara, and her stepdaughter Rachel Johnson of McLean, VA, her husband Jeff and two daughters, Abigail and Joslyn, and stepsister Beth Ann O'Neil and her husband Frank of Abingdon, MD. A Service Celebrating Barbara's life will be held at ADAMS-GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, Va on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 3:00 PM The family thanks all of their friends and neighbors for the great support and love they've provided during this difficult time.
