My sympathy and condolences go out to Alicia's family at this sad time. I was so lucky to know Alicia for several years when she assisted the Reston Players. When we had about 20 performances of "Beauty and the Beast" to put on, Alicia helped to be the theater manager for several of those performances. She had the nicest outgoing personality and generous spirit. Once she kindly invited me to her home for a dinner she cooked herself. Her life story was so interesting. Alicia was a classy lady indeed and her passing is a loss for us all.

One of my favorite stories (And one of Meme's favorites I gather, based on how easy it was for me to coax it out of her time after time!) was that of the day Meme because a Citizen of the United States. She was not born here, but she really did love her country. I remember how proud she would be when she told me that she was sworn in as a Citizen as the sun set on July 4th as part of a group ceremony that took place on the front steps of Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. The significance of the moment was certainly not lost on her, and she carried that with her for the rest of her life.

My deepest sympathies to your family. I did not know Meme well but she was very kind to me. She welcomed me into her home and cooked me delicious food. Loosing a loved one is never easy but soon the good memories will out weigh the grief.

Like Lauren, I would agree that Alicia loved being the party of life and when appropriate, being the life of the party. She enjoyed a nice glass of wine as much as she did telling stories while still engaging in someone else's story as it was being told. I have many fond memories of shared Thanksgivings in Wisconsin. There was one year where she kept complimenting my brother on how young he looked, which I reminded her that I was 10 years younger AND the host that year. I also so fondly remember when she and my mother in law Mary spent 2 hours and more then a few glasses of wine trying to compromise on how to make the perfect gravy. Alicia was a gentle soul who worked so hard to include everyone and make all feel welcome and included. It is a rare trait that she had to be successful at both. We may have all laughed a little at her, but we laughed so much more with her. She was such a treat that touched many lives. She was a class act all the way, and will be missed by many, many friends. Raising a glass, here's to you Alicia. We will miss you tremdously.

When I think of Meme, I remember her through my child self's eyes. She always wore a perfectly styled outfit, with her make-up more precisely applied than mine will ever be, standing in her kitchen with the radio AND tv turned to the news, cooking something too delicious for my then uneducated palate to appreciate. In my memories it's always Christmas time because that was when I was most excited to go to Reston. Meme decorated her house like a classy Christmas card. Gold and silver draped the tree. A fire crackled in the hearth. Candles that Sean and I always fought over who would get to light and put out adorned the beautifully set table. The life and soul of every party was Meme, and not just because she was the undisputed best cook in the world. Meme was never afraid to speak her mind and the stuff that came out of her mouth ranged from mortifying to insightful to hysterical. In her way, she loved us all more than she could ever express. Looking back, it was during those visits at Christmas-time that I see her love the most. She was so happy gathering her little family to her table, eating and drinking the night away. Eventually, Sean and I would slip away to play, but we could always hear the laughter and chatter from the grown-ups upstairs. And the loudest voice was always Meme's.
Thank you for the beautiful memories.
Love, Lauren

Alicia, we will always remember you as we once knew you, in Tananarive and in Reston. You were generous, lively, hospitable, spontaneous, very funny at times, sometimes a little difficult (!). It was wonderful to know you and your family, with whom we have shared many good memories. We will miss you.

Alicia Pascualina Bartolome Gormont, 82, of Reston, Virginia, died peacefully Tuesday February 18, surrounded by her family.
Alicia was born in Paris France to Marcelle Brunetti and Luis Bartolome on September 12, 1932. She moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina as a young child and at 17 moved to Montreal Canada with her family where she went to business school and was a Spanish radio announcer/actress for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1956 she married Lucien Victor Gormont in Montreal. She became a US citizen in Virginia in 1963.
Alicia traveled the world for about 10 years with her young family and husband, who worked for the US State Department, before settling down in Reston VA in the 1970s.
Alicia was very spirited and loved a party. She hosted lively celebrations with delicious food, good music and lots of laughter. She was a skilled Toastmaster who could spin a tale and a competitive bridge player who played at tables around the world. She volunteered many years as Costume Manager for the Reston Community Players and as Cluster Secretary for her neighborhood.
Alicia spoke English, French and Spanish and was comfortable in diverse settings. She worked at the World Bank for many years and befriended people from around the world. After retiring, she worked at MCI/WorldCom, Sprint, and the Chrysalis Counseling Center.
Alicia is survived by her two children: Monique Mobley (Scott) of Wisconsin and Paul Gormont (Corrine) of Reston, VA. She is also survived by her husband and friend, Lucien Gormont of Reston,VA, and three grandchildren: Sean Mobley of Seattle, WA, Lauren Mobley of WI, and Nicolas Gormont of Reston, VA.
Although Alicia cherished her rich cultural background, she loved her life in the United States and called it home.

Praying for your family in this time of great loss. Remembering My Mother © Belinda Stotler My Mother seems so far away from me, On that beautiful white shore across the sea. Yet I remember love’s soft glow upon her face, And the feel of her touch and tender embrace. When I am weary from the burdens I’ve borne, And the path is unclear and I feel so forlorn, I remember her loving support was always near, And her advice made the path ahead seem clear. When I feel there is no one who seems to care, Or when the heartache seems too hard to bear, I remember how she always stood by my side, And would tenderly wipe away the tears I cried. When there are moments of great joy and pride, And I wish my Mother was standing at my side, I remember she saw more than I thought I could be, And know I owe my triumphs to her belief in me. When I reminisce about the things she used to say, And I miss her and think she is so far away, I remember what she gave lives on through me, And one day I’ll see her on the shore across the sea.
