John, I was so sorry to hear that Ann had passed away. I learned so much from Ann and you when I was a park naturalist at Runnymede. I appreciated the many hours Ann spent teaching me about everything in the park from wildflowers to birds, to beavers and foxes. I will always remember Ann fondly, and the many ways she loved and protected nature. My deepest sympathies to you and your families. Jenny Aley

When I was the editor of the Fremont Observer I was keenly aware of Ann's undying support of Runnymede Park, of birds and animals, and of everything natural. She and John made me a better editor and helped me to understand and promote the lasting benefits of nature. John's work on the council was of supreme importance to the town of Herndon, and with Ann's help, John paved the way for a better community. Towns like Herndon need more Ann Czonka's and John De Noyer's to remind us all of the right things to do. I'll miss Ann, and John, I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

So sorry to learn of Ann's passing. I used to run into John and Ann while walking my (now gone) terrier mix Gus in Runnymede Park, crossing the creek from Reston. Nature has lost a fervent champion! Deep sympathies to John and the family...

Ann was a wonderful encourager and I will miss her. I got to know her through her sharing gardening tips, and in working to improve freedoms in our town. I will miss her smile and energy. My heart goes out to John and her family.

Ann was a wonderful role model to so many children! For years, our preschool classes would walk from St. Timothy' s to visit Ann and John at their house. She and John were the perfect combo for kids! Ann would teach about nature with passion and unbelievable energy! John would quietly instruct and guide the children to discover things on their own. They would allow us to observe and hold their turtles and snakes. At the beginning, I was a little nervous about the snakes, but Ann encouraged me with humor and patience. After the first year, I was always ready to let Ann show the children that "even a novice like me" could learn to respect and handle her animals. Several of the children told me the trip to their home was "the best day of their lives!" Ann taught me the Web of Life activity which helps children learn that nature is connected and actions have consequences on many levels. I still use that activity in my classroom. I have so many wonderful memories of Ann. She made me laugh and she made me think! I always left her feeling I had learned something new. I will miss her. I hope she knew that the world was a better, more interesting place because of her!

Ann was a woman of many talents. She hired me as an exhibit specialist in 1981 and we worked on many projects together at USGS. There was no one like Ann Csonka and working with Ann was never boring. She had so much passion for everything she did. I loved working with her. My children and I have many fond memories of Ann and she will be missed.

Ann Was a talented, smart, passionate, and amazing woman. I was privileged to know her and work with her in the exhibits department at USGS. I will miss her and I will miss her "little girl giggle". My deepest sympathy to John and her family.

Thoreau wrote: in wilderness is the preservation of the world. In Ann Csonka is the preservation of the natural world. Artist, naturalist, educator, mentor, friend, Ann set a bold and daring example of what it means to be a citizen of this earth. I extend my deepest sympathy.
