Just so saddened to hear this. Gabe and I studied Arabic in Cairo together and we were roommates as well. I lost touch with him a year or two after his wedding but wanted to reconnect. Finding out this news from this site was such a shock and deeply saddening. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

The rest of those who have gone before us cannot steady the unrest of those of us to follow. We all know what lays at the end of the road but twists, turns, and dapple shade obscure our clear view of it. We enjoy the journey and you, Gabe, made the journey so much easier, more pleasant, and more fun for those of us so fortunate to be around you. You would help anyone without need for the light yourself. You saw through the hyperbole, the vanities, the posturing and smiled as only old souls can do. I enjoyed your insights, substance, humor, your self effacing qualities and most of all I enjoyed standing in your calm Light. I regret not having sought you out more often just to chat but then we all do. Would that I or any of us could somehow ease the ineffable grief of your family Gabe. I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with Gabe growing up off Grove Avenue in Falls Church. Our families had children of the same age, and for many years the school bus picked us up outside his house. We spent many mornings together on his stoop--playing tic-tac-toe (he had mastered its strategy already and regularly bested me), picking up lady bugs and roly poly's, talking about Nintendo games and doing the types of things little boys do to pass the time.
Gabe was a great friend and someone I looked up to; he amazed me with his creativity and imagination; he was smart, funny and kind; he was someone I aspired to be in many ways. He continued to achieve and succeed in ways that made me proud to have such a friend. He will always be with me, and he will always be missed. Love you, buddy.
