SHEPPARD, David I. (age 74) Of Reston, VA, on March 18, 2014, at Reston Hospital, beloved husband of Carol R. Sheppard of Reston, VA, loving father of Andrea K. Wilson of Greeley, CO, Bruce R. Outland of Gilbertsville, PA and Pamela R. Sullivan of Springfield, VA. Also survived by nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and brothers Ronald of Allentown, PA and Gregory of Sunnyvale, CA. Dr. Sheppard spent his career concentrating on research & evaluation of Criminal Justice issues such as reducing juvenile gun violence and community based justice centers. He retired in 2008 as Senior Program Director with Cosmos Corporation in Bethesda, MD. David's love of travel added to his and Carol's 37-year adventure together. They visited the South Sea isles and European countries countries teeming with historical sites that fascinated Dave. Sailing trips in Greece and the Caribbean contrasted with Jeeping adventures in his beloved Colorado, An African safari with his brothers and their spouses was a highlight of his life. Dave and Carol's three-day car trips taken twice a summer to and from their second home in the Colorado mountains speak to their compatibility. The family will receive friends on Saturday March 22, 2014, from 7 to 9 pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 11am at Floris United Methodist Church, 13600 Frying Pan Rd., Herndon, VA. On-line condolences may be made at adamsgreen.com
