Obituary of Sieber Mellott

Sieber Aurand Mellott, Jr., of Sterling, VA, formerly of Fredericksburg, VA, age 88, passed away on April 4, 2014, after a two-week hospital stay. "Sonny," as he was affectionately known, was born on January 3, 1926, in the White Oak section of Stafford County, VA, to Sieber A. Mellott, Sr. and Elva Olive Mellott. He grew up in Alexandria, VA and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. Sonny served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre, with tours in Austria, Germany, and France. He was discharged with the rank of 1st Sergeant. Sonny was an active member for many years in the American Legion. He retired from Kann's Department Store in Arlington, VA in 1977 after 25 years of employment. His first marriage to Alice Travers ended in divorce. Sonny is survived by his wife of 26 years, Margaret J. Mellott, of the home in Sterling, daughter Bonnie Mellott Douglas of Elk Creek, VA, and stepchildren Michael (Ruthie), Albert, and Adrian Rosati, all of northern VA. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his brother Starlis F. Mellott and son Steven A. Mellott. He also leaves behind numerous friends and special neighbors whose contributions to his life are immeasurable. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street in Herndon, VA. Visitation is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service following in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m.
