Obituary of Jerry Aiken Stevens

Please share a memory of Jerry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jerry Stevens went home to our Lord on Friday, May 9, 2014. She passed quietly and at peace, surrounded by the family that loves her. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 4, 1928, she was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ruby Aiken, and her dear sister Peggy Aiken Barr. Jerry graduated from Columbia High School and attended Columbia College. She married her husband of almost 65 years, Richard Stevens, on August 13, 1949. The Book of Galatians tells us "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." This is in many ways a good summary of Jerry's life. A true Christian, Jerry was blessed, and blessed all who knew her as she touched their lives with love, hope, faith and charity. Jerry always put the needs others first. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother, a loyal sister, and a tireless volunteer. Service to God and to others defined her life. Jerry is survived by her sisters June and Patsy, loving husband Dick, their six children (Laura, John, Bob, David, Charles, and Richard Jr.), twenty three grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren (with at least one more on the way). The offspring of Jerry and Dick Stevens will try to spread love like she did in their homes and communities in Hawaii, Missouri, California, Oregon, Virginia, and Illinois. Jerry will always live in the hearts of the many people lucky enough to have been touched by her kindness and compassion.. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Herndon, 10:30 am on Monday May 19th for an 11 am Memorial Service followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Baptist Church of Herndon, 681 Elden St, Herndon, Virginia 20170.
