Obituary of Edna Josephine Major

Edna Josephine "Jo" Major, 89, of Herndon, Virginia passed away on June 4th, 2014. Jo was born in Ripley, Mississippi on August 20th, 1924 to Marie Delores Frazier and John Y. Keith Sr.. She graduated from Athens High School in Alabama and continued on to The University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she was chosen as head drum majorette. Jo married the love of her life, Mark Major, on March 4th, 1945, they were married for 46 years. In 1956 after having two daughters, Ann and Jerry, the family moved to Miami, Florida where Jo was an Executive Administrative Assistant to the Dean at Miami Dade Community College. She retired in 1990, and in 1992 after being widowed, moved to Orlando, Florida where she worked at Valencia Community College in the library, then shortly retired, again, in 1996. Jo is survived by her daughters Ann Jackson and Jerry Thatcher and her husband David Thatcher; grandchildren, Rachael Sordillo, Mark Jackson, Ashley Thatcher, and Garrett Thatcher and seven great-grand children. Also surviving are her four siblings: Geraldine Phelps, Charles Keith, John Y. Keith Jr., and William Keith, and numerous nieces and nephews, and Max the dog. She is preceded in death by her husband Mark Major, and grandson Paul Thatcher II and her parents. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7th at Adams-Green Funeral Home on 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170 from 6-8pm. The graveside service will be held on Monday, June 9th at Stonewall Memorial Gardens on 12004 Lee Hwy, Manassas, VA 20109 at 11am. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington D.C. at www.rmhcdc.org.
