How sad I was to learn that Claudia had lost the brave fight she has been engaged in to live. Although her health was bad for some time, she did not complain but always maintained an optimistic demeanor that her friends all associated with Claudia. Claudia's glass was always half full. My last conversation with her was just a few days before she died and in true Claudia fashion, she said, "Good news. If they can determine what this spot is on my lung, I am going to get a kidney and a liver transplant!" Most of us would have focused upon the "spot," but not Claudia. She just saw that as one more hurdle to climb. Bless her heart, I am so glad that she left this earth thinking that a transplant and good health were just around the corner. How I shall miss my confidante, colleague, and good friend. She has, I am certain, gone to a place where livers work and kidneys function and there are a lot of stray doggies for her to mother.

Claudia was a most-respected assistant principal at Clearview Elementary School in Herndon, VA. She willingly shared and applied her broad knowledge of educational principles; as a result, Clearview's students benefitted from a greatly enriched educational program. In addition to being a wonderful assistant to me at Clearview, Claudia was a dear friend. Over the years, we shared many meals at top restaurants, saw the latest and best movies, and chatted for long hours on the phone--after which I always felt that we had solved the world's problems quite nicely. My family enjoyed Claudia immensely. Many times when she was in Virginia over major holidays, she would spend it with my family. She spent many Thanksgivings, Easters, and Fourth of Julys with us. She especially enjoyed my brother's home, Maple Lawn, in Rapidan, VA, and the many holidays celebrated there. As well, she loved the holidays celebrated at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA. My brother considered Claudia a true and valued friend. He was indebted to her for the assistance she provided him by critiquing his dissertation for his Ph.D. Claudia also loved spending holidays with my daughter, Kim, my son-in-law, Ed, and my grandkids, Alex and Savanna. They enjoyed spending time with Claudia, because she enriched every gathering with her keen interest in what each one was doing at work or at school. All of us would often meet for Sunday brunch at The Red Fox Inn in Middleburg, VA, and Claudia's presence added much to each occasion. During one of our last visits there, she shared her fulfilling adventures as a "foster parent" for rescue dogs. We loved being with her. A few times in life, a special person walks along side us for a period of time. Claudia was a special person in my life. I will miss her, but I will keep her in my prayers and I am comforted by my Christian belief that, in Heaven, we will be with those who helped us along the way while we were here on earth.

I wish to express my condolences to the family. I know that your loss is great. May you find comfort from the God of all comfort who helps us to cope with our grief. It can be so hard to face each day without your loved one, but the love and support of family and friends and, of course, our loving Creator, can help to ease the pain and sorrow. Again, please accept my sincere condolences.

I am greatly saddened to learn the news of Claudia's passing...yet I am smiling now thinking of her and remembering her cheerful countenance whenever I worked or interacted with her. She was a great support to me when I was still learning the ropes as an educator, and I will always benefit from her solid grounding and expertise with all matters involving administration, personal relations, children, instruction...and so on. She will be greatly missed and very much remembered for her amazing outlook on life and on educating others.

I was very sorry to hear of Claudia's death. I worked with her for several years and we became friends. She was a special person and was optimistic throughout all her ordeals with this disease. In fact, she was teaching others about how to care for her. Sylvia Auton www.FCPSPeople.com

Words see inadequate when talking about the qualities of our dear friend Claudia. Claudia was my assistant principal at Clearview Elementary. There were so many times when I would go in to talk to her and she would give me a perspective that elevated my thinking process. Her guidance could bring me around to a different and higher thinking level. Claudia became a friend that enriched my life. I remember having brunch at her Lake Anne home with Sheila, brother Paul and Jackie on a delightful Sunday morning. She was such a model of courage in fighting all the medical challenges she had to face over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. We will all miss her. Carol Bolduc

Offering my sincere sympathy to Claudia's family. I was saddened to hear of Claudia's death. Her consistent optimism had convinced me that she would survive and recover from her health issues. I have so many fond memories of Claudia. Our meeting first as Vanderbilt doctoral students and celebrating graduation together developed a fond friendship. Over the years I continued to enjoy Claudia's company and looked forward to our get-togethers and conversations. We served together on doctoral committees and I knew I could always count on Claudia's knowledge and expertise to benefit our students. She will be missed!
