It is now six months after my brother died. I still cannot believe he is gone. I wish more people knew what an incredible man he was. Humble, loving, talented...we always had wonderful long talks about everything under the sun. He was an incredible listener; able to empathize, and hear without judgement. He was also one of the funniest people I knew - often making me laugh until my stomach hurt. When we were little, we often played together outside in our old barn or the fields where we grew up. He was also an incredibly talented cellist - an artist through and through.
In many ways he was my "rock" I always knew I could call him and know I was loved and supported - and I hope I did the same for him. I love you Walter. I miss you terribly.

Walter's father (my Uncle Ludo) was the brother of my father (Walter's Uncle Fritz). As kids, it was really special when we got to visit with our cousins. I remember how attractive I always thought Ludo's kids were compared to my sisters and me! (I think I had a bit of an innocent crush on Aunt Jane, Walter's mother.) Walter was so much fun to be around. When we vacationed at Martha's Vineyard, Walter would do the BEST yodel out of the back of the car. He and I spent hours stacking rows of dominos and then having them fall in a series.
I wish I had more chances to know him as an adult and a father, but living in Miami made it hard to stay close. A few times I stopped at his house when I would drive from Miami to my parents in Albany, N.Y. He always welcomed me as if we were the best of friends. We may not have had much time together, yet I feel like we are still close just because of our kinship. I am proud that he is my cousin. I am sure he was a fantastic husband and father, but I know that he was a fantastic cousin first-hand. I miss you Walter! Your family here in Miami will celebrate your life.
