Obituary of Dorothy McDonald Twisdale

Dorothy McAllister McDonald Twisdale, age 86, died on July 14, 2014. She was born in Beaver Falls, PA on July 8, 1928. She grew up in Akron, Oh. Upon graduation from High School she entered Greenbrier Junior College for Women in Virginia. Her late brother Col. Alexander R. McAllister, talked their Mom into getting her out of the "Angel Factory." She then entered Ohio State University and became President of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Following graduation, she relocated to Paris, France for one year, taking courses in art. Upon completion, she moved to New York City where she worked for an advertising agency. While there she met up with her college sweetheart, Col. James R. McDonald, USAF. They were married in September 1952. Thereafter, she followed her late husband on his various assignments in the Philippines, Madrid Spain, Otis AFB, NJ, Ohio, Colorado, Hawaii and Fairfax, VA. Dorothy was very active in the Officer's Wives Club at each of their station assignments. She enjoyed golfing in a wide range of challenging locations with her late husband. They were blessed with two daughters, Dr. Mickey McDonald of Tucson, AZ and Megan McDonald of Fairfax, VA. After her girls left home for college, she became a successful realtor in Northern VA. She made the "Million Dollar" mark more than once. Her artistic talents found expressing in home decorating, drawing and painting. Following her late Husband's death in 1999, she participated in a golf tournament in September 2001 with the Army Navy Country Club Golf Pro and his wife. Her partner was Col. Tom Twisdale USA Ret. (whom she did not know). They were later married in March 2002, and enjoyed a loving relationship thereafter.
She is survived by her husband Tom Twisdale, his family; and her loving daughters, Megan K. McDonald and Michelle M. McDonald, her son-in-law Robert Johnson, her grandchildren Helen (and Helen's husband Kai), Erik, and Amelia, and her great grandchild Brynn Rose.
