Obituary of Maria Antonieta Demartini

Maria Antonieta Demartini, June 28, 1940 ~ September 13, 2014. Maria passed away on September 13 in Fairfax, VA. She succumbed to complications from heart valve disease. Maria was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia and moved to the Washington, DC Area over 30 years ago. Dona Demartini was instrumental in founding and organizing the Bolivian folklore dance group, "Fraternidad Alma Boliviana." She was a commanding force in the Bolivian community. Through her love of country, dance, and music she encouraged many other Bolivian compatriots to join her in growing and promoting Bolivian culture in the DC Area. Her legacy is ever present in Bolivian Dance Troupes that actively participate in Latin American and International Festivals and other cultural gatherings throughout the DC metro area. She was the beloved daughter of the late Jose Moron and Laura Clavel; her devoted daughter Alexandra, and lovely grandchildren Casey, Sophie and Sebastian survive her. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends beginning 1:00pm on Friday, September 19, 2014 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church located at 11900 Lawyers Rd., Reston, VA 20191; a funeral Mass will be offered at 2:00pm. Interment will be private.
