Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Louise Wentz Keagy was born to James I. and Sally L. Wentz on August 1, 1922. Dorothy grew up in Lineboro, Maryland, with her brothers, Sterling, William, Donald (all deceased), Jesse and sisters Helen, Mary, Sally Ann, Doris, Ruth and Pearl. She attended high school until the eighth grade, when she had to quit school to care for her siblings, while her parents worked the farm. She worked in a canning factory and as a live-in mother's helper, caring for a family and their children. On December 14, 1944, she married Frank Keagy. Dorothy gave birth to Joyce Marie on April 21, 1948 and to Beth Ann on February 7, 1956. Dorothy was a loving mother and a hard-working housewife, who toiled in their large garden in York, PA. Her family lived off the land in the summer; and she froze and canned fruits and vegetables to eat during the fall, winter and spring. She was a great cook and loved to bake. In 1963, she moved with her husband and their family to Springfield, Virginia. In May of 1975, she earned her General Education Development certificate (GED) and earned her Bookkeeping I certificate, December 1975. She worked as a secretary for GE, for the Department of the Army; and she held a position with the Northern Virginia Bank. Dorothy trusted in Christ as her Savior when she was a young girl and had a deep and abiding love for the Lord. In their teen years, Dorothy and her sisters played stringed instruments and sang for churches in the Lineboro, Maryland, area. She was active in the York and Franconia Christian & Missionary Alliance Churches. In 1975, she joined Immanuel Bible Church. Dorothy always held positions as Sunday school teacher or served in leadership roles in children's ministries. In 2006, Frank and Dorothy moved to Centreville, Virginia, where they attended Chantilly Bible Church. Dorothy and Frank served the Lord in encouraging, hosting, supporting and visiting numerous missionaries throughout their lives. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Dorothy always had a sweet smile, was friendly, compassionate, provided godly counsel and was a "mother" to many. Her life and abiding faith in her Heavenly Father was an inspiration to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
