Obituary of Bernard Joseph Dunn

Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernard Joseph Dunn, Jr December 30, 1951 - October 19, 2014 Bernie suddenly left his beloved wife Joan, adored daughter Emily and his best friend, his sister Faye, after a long battle with diabetes caused by Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam from January 18, 1970 to January 7, 1971. He then returned to the United States and was assigned to the Marine Corps Honor Guard's Silent Drill Team where he joined a brotherhood of men who always remained in his heart. Bernie served under President Richard Nixon and performed all over the world, including a performance in front of the Queen of England. He took pride in his Marine Corps accomplishments and carried those lessons throughout his life. Under the encouragement of Sgt. Charles Dean, Bernie attended computer school and then entered Northern Virginia Community College to receive his degree in Computer Science. With this knowledge, he started as a computer programmer and then set his sights on computer networking sales, where he excelled in the industry. He landed the Marriott account and connected all their worldwide hotels; another notable account was the connection of the Perdue Company. In 2002 the exposure to Agent Orange caught up to him and he became blind for 93 days and was told he would never see again. He had a long talk with God and against all odds, the vision in his right eye was restored. Due to Bernie's health, the Veterans Administration granted him 100% Service Disabled status. This allowed him to make a negative into a positive, as he did his whole life, and gave him the opportunity to create BJD Tel-Comm, SDVOB. Bernie inspired all he met and always had a positive, encouraging word and a song in his voice. Memorial services will be held October 28th at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA. There will be a viewing at 10 AM, followed by a Catholic service at 11 AM. Bernie will be laid to rest later that day at 2 PM, as were his wishes, with his fellow Marines at Quantico National Cemetery, where he will be given military honors.
