Obituary
Obituary of Jane McGovern
Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jane McGovern went home to be with the Lord with her two daughters by her side at the age of 68.
Jane is survived by her daughters Kim Shanahan (Leesburg, VA) and Kelly McPherson (Chantilly, VA), her sons-in-law Patrick Shanahan & Jonny McPherson and her beloved grandchildren, Jordan & Caili Shanahan and Charlotte, Jonny & William McPherson.
She was born on July 9, 1946 in Washington, DC to Willard Marshall and Margarite Marshall (White). She loved the fact that she was a native Washingtonian. She was the middle child of two sisters that she loved very much, Jackie Marshall (younger) and Jeanne Crow (older). In her childhood years she was very much a self-described tomboy who loved to play sports, ride her bike around town and hang out with her "daddy". She loved the Washington Redskins from a very early age and was an avid fan for the rest of her life. Jane spent most of her adult life raising her two girls and then watching her beloved grandchildren any time she could. She often said, "being a mom is one of the best jobs in the world but the gift of being a grandmother is even better!".
Jane was a talented artist (pen & ink) and overall an extremely creative person. She started her own graphic design business, Visual Image in the late 80's to help local small businesses with their logo's, branding and other marketing needs. She also was involved in the Great Falls & McLean Players. She loved the Players and while acting was not her thing, she produced many plays (15 total) and always designed their playbills/flyers/posters (55 total). Jane loved to read, play boggle, trivial pursuit, words with friends and watch her favorite TV shows. She loved to talk on the phone for hours and connect with her good friends. She had a way about her that made you feel like you were the only one in the room and so many instantly felt a connection to her because she genuinely was interested in getting to know each and every person she came across. So many words to describe, Jane…warm, generous, kind, devoted, witty, hilarious, strong, competitive, stubborn, creative, artistic and most of all a devoted mother and grandmother who always put others before herself.
