Edward A. Sabo "Ed", age 93, passed October 11, 2014 at Ashby Ponds Senior Community in Ashburn, VA. Beloved husband of late Madeline M. Sabo. Loving father of Cynthia L. Sabo of Ashburn, VA. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous other extended family and friends. Predeceased by brothers John and Emery and sisters Helen, Elizabeth, Mary and Anna.
Ed was born and raised in Brownsville, PA, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps directly out of high school. Throughout his 26 years in the Air Force he was stationed in Mississippi, Michigan, Texas, Oregon, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Colorado. Upon his military retirement in 1966 he moved his family to Virginia where he earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland in 1971 and worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency as a computer programmer until his civilian retirement in 1984.
Ed was a lifelong athlete. He pitched on the winning All Service Baseball team in 1945 and was also a champion bowler and golfer. In his eighties he even medaled in the Senior Olympics. He had three passions in his later life: singing with the Merrymakers in Arlington and the Song Birds at Ashby Ponds, ballroom dancing, and karaoke.
Family will receive guests Monday, January 5 at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA from 11:00 a.m. until service at 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel followed by interment at Arlington National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Memorial donations suggested to American Heart Association.
