TATYANA DAVYDOVA (born KATAEVA)
92 years old, born on December 3, 1922, passed away on December 25, 2014
Tatyana lived a rich life and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was born on December 3, 1922, about a month before the formation of the Soviet Union. Her birthplace, the village Severnaya in the Ural Mountains, Russia, does not exist anymore.
Tatyana was the sixteenth child of Ivan and Vera Kataevy (four, including her, survived into adulthood). However, she lost both of her parents shortly after birth. She had a difficult childhood living in several foster families until her older siblings were old enough to care for her.
Tatyana graduated from high school on June 22, 1941, the day the Second World War was declared against Russia. All girls either became nurses, or like Tatyana, had to work at a military plant.
Tatyana met her husband, Semion Davydov, during the war, after he was discharged due to a gunshot wound. They had two children—Valery, born in 1944 and Irina, born in 1946. When she got married, Tatyana became a homemaker and followed her husband (an engineer) on job rotations. Because of this, she had the opportunity to live in various places across the Soviet Union. Tatyana has been a widow since 1957, when her husband Semion passed away from complications due to his WWII wound.
After her husband's death, she became the primary breadwinner for the family and rejoined the workforce as an accountant. She retired in 1977, at the age of 55.
The tragic loss of both of her children deeply affected the last decades of her life. Since 1990, after her daughter passed away, she has been carrying the burden of surviving her children.
Tatyana came to the United States in 2000. She sometimes missed the energy of Moscow and her life in Russia, but she did enjoy living in a quiet neighborhood of Sterling, VA in her later years. While in the United States, Tatyana traveled to Baltimore, New York City, Orlando, Ocean City, Virginia Beach, and Assateague Island. She attended religious services in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, DC. Tatyana enjoyed keeping in touch with her friends in the local Russian community as well as friends and family abroad.
