Adolph Emil Kuna, 90, born on January 11, 1924, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2014. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He lived a long and rich life and will be truly missed by many. He was born to immigrant parents from Czechoslovakia, the third child of John and Sophia Kuna, in Irvington, NJ. He graduated Irvington High School in January 1943 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Shipfitter, 2nd Class on a high octane tanker vessel in the Atlantic, Asiatic, and Pacific Oceans during World War II on two different vessels - the USS Elkhorn and the USS Sapelo. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946. Before enlisting he met the love of his life Marion Hill at her place of employment, Mutual Benefit Life Insurance in Newark, NJ Upon his return from the War, he worked at Mutual Benefit for one year as an Elevator Operator, conveniently stopping at the floor where Marion worked. Adolph was then employed at American Can Company in Hillside, NJ from 1947 to 1952. Adolph and Marion were married on September 16, 1950 and moved to Scotch Plains, NJ. Adolph then found his calling as a Police Officer for the Scotch Plains Police Department in New Jersey for 31 years from 1952 until 1983. Adolph and Marion welcomed baby Patricia on April 20, 1954 and then Carolyn six years later on September 19, 1960. Adolph enjoyed summers in Cape May, NJ and many projects around the house. He adored his grandchildren, singing, his player piano, spending time with family, and making people laugh. Adolph is preceded by his wife, Marion, and his sister, Zelda Romano of East Rutherford, NJ, and brother, Ivan Kuna of Clark, NJ. He is survived by Patricia and Thomas Tamaccio of Herndon, VA, Carolyn and Dan Mullan of McMurray, PA and five grandchildren Claire(and Grant Price), Ross Tamaccio, Connor, Matthew, and Kelsey Mullan. Along with his sister, Lillian Kuna Lutes, of Cape May, NJ and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the American Cancer Society.
