My deepest condolences to Madhuri and the children. I used to work with Thillai in 1996 when he was in Cincinnati. Thillai and Madhuri were just married. We used to hang out a lot during the weekends with other friends. One day when we were leaving work, my car had a flat tire. I never replaced one before. Thillai rolled up his sleeves, mounted the jack, removed the flat tire and replaced it with the spare tire quickly. It was cold outside. His wife was waiting for him at home.I was new in his team. He barely knew me.Even then he chose to help me. 6 months later, Thillai and Madhuri moved with the job to DC. Few of us including RK,Chandra and I stayed back and found consulting career with a different firm. We used to keep in touch for a while. When my father passed away in 1997, he called and consoled me and told me how hard it is to loose a parent and related the sudden lose of his mother a few years earlier. Thillai visited Cincinnati in 2000 and visited my daughter who was born few weeks earlier. We used to speak over phone for a while and lost touch after that. Thillai is a simple and straightforward person. When he gives an advice to some one it is very sincere all the time. His sense of humor keep people in his company bursting with laughter. Usually Thillai will pick one of us to play his humor. Some times he goes too far. When he realises that, he would say, 'Don't take it to your heart'. Then he will use his final punch words which will again make people surrounding him bursting with laughter. I worked with Thillai only for 5 months. But he made an impression in me which will last for a lifetime. I know there are no words which can bring comfort to Madhuri and their children at this time. My deepest condolences to Thillai's father, all his family members and Madhuri's family members. I am very sorry! May his soul rest in Peace!

I wish to extend my sincerest condolences, personally and on behalf of Windies Cricket Club, to Thillai's family and friends, on his passing. I do this first out of shock, having just learnt the sad news while perusing the WMCB's website for information on the upcoming, 2015, cricket season. Thillai will most certainly be missed in that environment. However, there is a second, more profound reason for my statement here: it is the fact that Thillai's family and loved ones will forever long for all the positives that he brought to their lives. He will be missed. Thanks for the opportunity to have known you, Thillai, and for those occasions when our teams tried their best to snatch victory from each other. I trust that at those times all of us in some ways attained acceptable levels of fun and camaraderie. May you R.I.P.

Thank you for being such a great friend. You were a great comfort when I did not make it to the college cricket team. Memories of our school and TCE hostel times flashes in front of me. You were the same cheerful person when you came to Bangalore to see Selvaraj and me.
You are in my prayers. Rest in peace.
My deepest condolences

Thillai and I shared similiar interests. Played Cricket against him and Golf with him, and worked in the same building for number of years. He is such a delightful person and I loved his spirit, wanted to share an email he sent when he could not participate in a golf event:
"I lost my right hand mobility this summer, after a major surgery, they saved my hand but I can use it only for basic things and cannot play golf/cricket etc anymore, as they did a total elbow replacement with artificial metal.
I am in good spirits though as I am playing in squash leagues as a left hand player. I can play any sport that requires just one hand."
He was my first partner I played with, when we launched Desi Golf in 2008, I will miss you Thillai - RIP

Sincere condolences from our family to the Varadhan family. Deaths like this bring to mind the song from Michael Jackson, "Gone Too Soon." "O Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow." -- Psalms 144:3-4, New American Standard Bible, Updated Edition, 1995

T,
Will miss your presence on and off the squash court...admired your tenacity on the court and your fighting spirit off the court.
I was talking to you 6 months ago about I needing to lose a few pounds for squash and you showed me some crunches...the crunches are still part of my weekly routine and so is your presence !
It has been a pleasure knowing you and you have been a hero !

Thillai was a great and humble person, I knew him as cricket captain of warriors team. Would like to share a small incident when he was a captain, my team Washington CC was belting warriors team all over the park and then some warriors team members started ugly and bad sledging, Thillai stepped in and told his team-mates that they are here to play cricket and not start a fight. Outside the field i had the opportunity to meet him, always a soft-spoken person and we both shared lot of cricket stories. May God give courage to his family and near and dear ones.

Thillai
I met you after a very, very long time in your BIL's place in Bethlehem, PA. Nothing changed - same old person whom I know in the late 80's - the guy who loves sports like no body else. I cant forget the evergreen TCE days Thillai - at the Mayil Kadu grounds playing cricket matches, table tennis for the college, league matches & even the evening time tennis ball cricket in the red clay grounds - its still coming in front of my eyes. How many times we should have walked over from B & C blocks to the ground - how many times we - the juniors have come to your room & spent quality fun time with you & your buddy roommates Shyam & Ravi's brother - we then call the Madras gang. I still remember your classmate Meyappan (again a cricketer) who passed away when you folks were in the second year in a bike accident in Thirunagar. We all went back to Thirunagar to win his memorial cup cricket tournament in 1987 - I can't forget those days that we spent with you Thillai
Be rest assured that you & your family are surrounded by love during this very difficult time. It's too soon my senior - May your soul rest in peace.
With deepest & heartfelt condolences,
Muthu Ramiah

Dear Thillai, we still fondly remember the Southfield days with you. The competitive racquet ball games (in which you showed me the court around), the picnics we had, the graciousness and friendliness you showed - all of that will be sorely missed. We pray that your family will get all the strength that it requires such a loss. Rest in peace Thillai.

Thillai is a great individual, I know him over 10 years. Gem of a person. Always speaks positive. Used to see him every day at gym untill last year. Came to know about his cancer last summer. Met him again at Gym recently. I was amazed to see his will power looking at him playing squash with left hand since his right elbow was removed in the recent surgery. I was hoping and wishing and prayed for his complete recovery or atleast for his logevity for more and more and more years whatever he wants.
Very devastated to hear this last night.
May his soul rest in peace.

While we will all miss you immensely, rest assured that they will never want for anything as long as your wide circle of friends are here to watch over them, while you bless them from afar and your memory guides them every day. I met Thillai when we both played as first-timers for the same cricket team in a DC league. The team we represented lost -- and the was not really a fun overall team to play for. At the end of that day, he got my contact information, and within a few months had assembled an entire team -- all by himself. That was Thillai --- He knew playing cricket could be fun and extremely competitive at the same time and was willing to build his own team to the standards he set, rather than play for a team that did not enjoy their cricket.
For the next 5 years or so, he set out building the team -- "his team", --- he put his sweat, blood, money and time into building the team and made us who we were. He was alsways fiercely competitive, but fair and fun-loving. Always the one to crack a joke but follow it up with a spirited effort on the field. His signature lofted 'golf-inspired' off-drive, his upper cut over point and his many diving catches are memories that I will forever cherish.
He was my CAPTAIN and will always be! Without him, even cricket, wouldnt have been that enjoyable, and now without him cricket will never be the same for most of us who played under him.

I first came across Thillai, as an opponent on the cricket field in 2004. He was leading the Monument Cricket Club and I was leading the Penn State Cricket Club. At the end of the match, his side had lost, with Thillai top scoring, came to us and congratulated us on the win, and talked to us for a while about our cricket journey. He said he was impressed with a bunch of college students making a day trip, every weekend, from the middle of Pennsylvania to Washington DC area for crikcet. He would go on to make a financial contribution to support our club in 2005 when we were desperate for funds.
That was Thillai. A generous man of cricket who enjoyed a good contest.
Later in 2007, our two clubs would merge and he would become my captain.
The cricket season of 2009 was the last time I shared a playing field with him. He was concerned that cricket was taking too much time away from his kids who were growing up too fast.
A kind man. Thorough gentleman. Respected competitor. Admired captain. Terrific human being.
Thillai, you will always be in our memories.
Deeply yours in cricket,
Subash
