Obituary of Dolores Mae Monsul

Dolores Monsul Obituary On Sunday, April 26, 2015 the sun deserted the sky, and a cold breeze permeated the spring air, as my beloved Dolores 'Dee' Urbanick Monsul succumbed to a respiratory ailment, at the Virginia Hospital Center, in Arlington, Virginia. She would've been 84 on May 15th. We met 65 years ago, on July 2nd, 1950 on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, when I saw her beautiful face for the very first time, and later that first night uttered the poignant words - "Dolores, someday I'm going to marry a girl - just like you!" Very prophetic words, indeed! We were married on October 15th, 1955, in the Holy Family Church, in Scranton, PA - the same church where she was baptized, and where Father Stephen Kollar married her mother and father, Jenny and Jake Urbanick, years before that. In 1955, when very few people honeymooned in Paris, we sailed across the ocean aboard the original Queen Mary, and began our new married life enjoying the sights and sounds of the most romantic city in the world - the "City of Lights' - Paris! It was a fantastic beginning to what turned out to be a beautiful 59 year 'odessy' married to my unbelievable 'Deedee'! She was a warm and loving friend, and sweetheart - and since we were never blessed with children, we shared a beautiful life together, traveling around the world several times. Occasionally, when I had to work, she would travel with her mother, Jenny, an absolutely wonderful mother-in-law, and the two ladies enjoyed many world-wide sights together. Upon their return, they would regale me with all of their exciting experiences, which we shared together. Dolores was born in 1931, at St. Mary's Hospital, in Scranton. She graduated with honors from Central High School in 1948, participating in many activities, including basketball! In 1951, Dolores was voted "Miss Lake Scranton' and attended Marywood University and the Lackawanna Business School. She worked for Beneficial Finance as a loan officer, until 1955, when she relocated to the New Jersey/Philadelphia area, after her marriage. Between 1955 and 1970, she managed an administrative insurance staff, and held executive positions with Catalytic Construction Co. and Ebeling & Reuss International Importing Co., prior to relocating to the Washington , D.C. area, when her husband, John, received a promotion with the Magnavox Corporation. From 1970 - until the present - Dolores and John spent the next 45 years in the Washington, D.C. area, living in the beautiful communities of Silver Spring, and Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Great Falls, Virginia, where they resided for the past 35 years, during which Dolores participated in numerous community and social activities, while her husband furthered his successful business career. If there is a 'heaven on earth' - I shared it with my beloved 'Deedee'! I will miss her dearly, with her warm touch and loving kiss, and can't wait until we can be reunited again, with our dear friends and loved ones, who supported us so faithfully during her final illness. Someday, we will reunite in the presence of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and His Holy Family. I'm eagerly awaiting the day when I can take her in my arms, again, and tell her "How much I love you, Honey!" My tears will be our loving postscript. Survivors are brother-in-law, James Monsul, Columbus, Ohio, niece Virginia Barnes, Sea Girt, New Jersey, Ann Mykalo, Manahawkin, NJ, who was Matron of Honor, at Dolores's wedding, in 1955, and many other cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. There will be a special Mass for Dolores on Wednesday, April 29th at 11am at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 1020 Springvale Road, Great Falls, VA., after which she will be transferred to the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., Scranton, PA. for a viewing on Thursday, April 30th from 7-9pm. A memorial service will be held at St. Vladimir's Ukranian Catholic Church, 430 N. Seventh Avenue, Scranton, PA., on Friday at 11am. Interment will follow at the church cemetery, on Kane Street, in Scranton. Flowers would be greatly appreciated, or Memorial donations can be made to her favorite charity - the Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals - the SPCA.
