Rose Horner Stern, 91, of Sterling, VA, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Johnson Center at Falcons Landing Potomac Falls,Virginia
Born on May 20, 1923 in Okmulgee,Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Ethel Horner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bette Allyn McCrary.
Rose was raised in San Antonio, Texas and while attending the University of Oklahoma, met and married Army 2 Lt Herbert Stern. She accompanied her husband to various military assignments until he was deployed to Europe during WWII, After the war, She and daughter joined Herb in Germany and subsequently accompanied her husband in tours to Italy,Turkey and posts in the United States. She gave birth to her son, Robert while in Italy. After her husband's retirement from the military, she lived in Potomac Maryland and in 2001 moved to Falcons Landing in Potomac Falls VA. Rose was very active in doing volunteer work with Montgomery County and Suburban Hospital. She was an avid golfer and bridge player. Rose was an intelligent, well read individual who loved traveling and spending leisure time on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Col. Herbert I. Stern; son, Robert Stern and his wife, Mary; grandchildren, Joshua and Bess and her brother Sam Horner of Corpus Christi ,Texas
A graveside service will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimers Association or to the West Point Jewish Chapel Fund.
