Harry was always kind and delightful to me -- though, as George says, he gave him grief about everything. That was just Harry. He loved the ladies. He always took my side when George and I had a disagreement. He would call me each night if George was out of town to make sure I was okay. He'd bring my newspaper up the driveway and leave it on the porch for me so I wouldn't have to go down to the street to pick it up. He gave me flowers from his garden. In return, I cooked for him on occasion, baked him cakes, and made him Beer Bread. We were great buddies! I already missed him, because we moved away from Woodcock Court a year ago -- but I'll miss our telephone conversations and the visits we had already planned. You only find a handful of best friends during a lifetime, and Harry was most definitely one of ours. We both loved him, and we'll both miss him terribly.

Oh, he always had kind words for the kids and always was sweet to every lady in the hood. As Jeff poits out, known for the rose on Mother's Day. To me, he was the guy who came to my house, demanded to be served beer, was solicitus of Judy and gave me endless "Sierra" about whatever subject was on his mind. I can picture him taking over my chair on many a day. He was always welcome. We went to Redskin games together, dined with Judy and Alice, lunched at Jimmy's, we shoveled snow on many occasions. Harry and I always made a point to be together on Veteran's Day and raise a glass to our fallen comrades.
Harry was the keeper of the snowblower. That made his driveway first, but he shoveled many a long hour until all the neighbor ladies were no longer snowbound.
I hate that I am not there to raise a glass to my friend Harry at Jimmy's.
So long, my friend, RIP!

We feel so fortunate to have been neighbors and friends with Harry. He always had a smile and something funny to say that would bring a smile to our faces as well. Throughout the years he bestowed countless acts of kindness on our family. I only hope he recognized how he touched us all and realized that we loved him. Our family has been reminiscing all week about our favorite Harry memories. Rest in peace Harry.

We moved into the Woodcock Court neighborhood about 16 years ago and Harry made us feel welcome immediately. I was a big redskin fan and it wasn't long before Harry joined a group of us to watch some of the Sunday games....he fit in like I had known him for forty years.
It was only a couple years before a new several of us had kids that became Woodcock staples. Whether just in passing or hanging out for some animated conversation, Harry always had this sincere smile for all, often adding jokes for the kids with hilarious sarcasm spectacled in.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the famed "Harry Hill" in John's backyard. During Winter, it provided endless fun in the snow for the kids sledding down and sometimes mowing down his gardening in the process. However, Harry got a kick out of this and it soon was accepted that "Harry Hill". Was the place to be.
Lastly, Harry always saw to it to bring a rose to both mothers and daughters of our neighborhood every Mother's Day.
Just a couple of the endless memories.

I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing. Now I understand why I didn't get my annual birthday greeting from him on August 1st. I will certainly miss all of his emails, filled with funny stories about his great nephews. John always seemed to know just when I needed a good laugh, because I'd open an email from him and find one of his delightful comic strips or jokes!! I will dearly miss my friend and his great personality. My family and I send our sincere condolences to his family and other friends.
