Combs, Robert Ebell CAPT USN (Ret) Captain Robert E. Combs, 78, who served in the United States Navy for over 30 years, died at his home in Herndon VA on July 15 th of natural causes. Bob Combs started out as a "White hat" Navy recruit in 1946. He became a Naval Aviation Cadet in 1951 and went on to become a Naval Aviator. He Commanded the HS11 Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron. He later commanded the Antisubmarine Air Group 54, and was also the Commanding Officer Naval Recruiting District of Boston. Bob came to Washington DC in 1975 and served in the Pentagon in various assignments until his retirement. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Eileen, as well as sisters Pat and Sharon and brother Jim, and numerous nieces and nephews in Nebraska and Colorado. Bob was preceded in death by his two sons Clendon and Douglas. Bob will be buried in Ogallala NE. Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 19 at St. John Neumann Catholic Community Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, VA 20191 at 10 a.m followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the CapitalHospice.org
