Obituary of Irene Evelyn DuBois
Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene E. (Kleiner) DuBois, 103, formerly of 13 Water Street, Adams MA, died August 13, 2015 in Reston VA. She was born in Adams MA on January 19, 1912, a daughter of the late Emil Alfred and Alma (Gross) Kleiner.
She attended Adams schools and graduated from Bliss Business College.
She worked for many years as a paralegal for the late Attorney Gerald F. Gravel, Judge Henry W. Kaliss, and Judge Henry L. Harrington. She then had her own tax and accounting business until she turned 86.
She was well known for her daily walks, especially by local canine friends knowing a treat was on the way. She treasured her view of Mt. Greylock out her kitchen window on Water Street. Though true to her daily oatmeal, chocolate was just as important, and kids never left her home without a mini candy bar. She enjoyed game shows, and her family fondly remembers games of Uno and joint-solitaire.
She loved being a part of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives, as she had lived with them and her children in recent years. In 2012 many family and friends gathered to celebrate her 100 years.
Her husband, Joseph A. DuBois, whom she married on January 2, 1934, in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams MA, died on April 4, 1981.
She is survived by one daughter, Bev Sherman and her husband, Bruce, of Fairfax VA; and one son, Dr. Joseph DuBois and his wife, Joan, of McLean VA; five grandchildren, Kevin Sherman and his wife, Candee, of Warrenton VA; Jill Sherman Davis and her husband, Norman, of Oakton VA; Dr. Karen DuBois Kelly and her husband, Patrick, of Manassas Park VA; James DuBois and his wife, Lori, of Montgomery AL; and Leslie Sherman and her husband, Dr. Leslie Looney, of Urbana IL; 10 great-grandchildren, Derek and Nicole Sherman, Emily and Karoline Davis, Brendan and Ben Kelly, Ronan and Conall Looney, and Katherine and Alexandra DuBois; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Emil Alfred "Freddie" Kleiner; and three sisters, Elsie Koch, Edna Kittler, and Alma "Tootie" Golec, all of Adams MA.
