Obituary of Geraldine W. Koser
Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Geraldine ("Gerri") Ward Koser, 69, of Fairfax Station, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer and congestive heart failure.
Born on November 30, 1945 in Princeton, New Jersey, Gerri was the daughter of the late Gerard A. Ward and Florence R. Shindle. Gerri was a career nurse at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC until her retirement after the birth of her first son, Brandon, in 1984. Her two sons, Brandon and Kevin, were her life. She became very involved in numerous school-oriented functions such as the PTA, school clinic, band, and orchestra. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, but even at her weakest moments, she continued to place the needs of her children, husband, and friends above her own. She did not fight the cancer or heart failure for herself; rather, she fought so she could love and care for everyone else in her life. Her selfless nature will always be remembered.
Gerri is survived by her loving husband, George Koser, of Fairfax Station; eldest son, Brandon, of Indianapolis, IN; youngest son, Kevin, his wife, Rachel, and their newborn son, Kannon, of Crozet, VA; her brother, Ken Ward, his wife, Elaine, and their four children of Oakton, VA.
Her family will honor her final wishes for cremation and no memorial service. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date, and details will be provided by the family when set.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gerri's name to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation (www.komen.org). Please share your favorite memories and stories of Gerri in the condolence/tribute section of this memorial site.
