Please share a memory of Stanley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Stanley (Stan) Newman, passed away on 6 October 2015 surrounded by family at Reston Hospital due to complications in conjunction with a broken hip at the age of 84.
Stan was born on 14 June 1931 in the Bronx, NY. He studied law and received a L.L.M. from New York University in 1961. Stan served a short stint in the U.S. military. He later went on to pursue a long distinguished career in Government Service working for the Internal Revenue Service as a tax attorney from 1964-1994. He served his country with distinction both domestically (Philadelphia, Washington DC and Dallas) as well as at various overseas locations (Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Brazil).
Stan was one of the early residents of the planned community of Reston, VA, moving his family to the Lake Anne area in 1967. After serving abroad for 22 years he resettled upon retirement back to his beloved Lake Anne area of Reston. Stan was a regular fixture at Lake Anne Plaza, particularly at the Lake Anne Coffee Shop, reading newspapers and socializing with his friends. While his interests and hobbies changed during the course of his lifetime, he always had a lifelong passion for reading and listening to classical music. In Stan's younger years he enjoyed playing tennis and travelling. Later in retirement Stan's interests and hobbies focused on participating in an investment club, taking adult education courses, debating in a current events group and going on trips with a senior travel group. Stan was known for his keen sense of intellect, quick wit and dry sense of humor, good-natured banter and eagerness to debate current events. Stan was a supporter of various social causes and provided generously to his favorite charitable organizations.
Stan is survived by one son (Keith) and one grandson (Kevin) of Reston from his first wife (Toby), two step children (Dante and Hana) of Texas from his second wife (Linda), one sister (Nina) of New York, and two nephews (Glenn and Michael) of New York, and one niece (Jill) of New Jersey.
