Obituary of Violet Virginia Lawrence

Violet Virginia (Kerby) Lawrence of Herndon, VA (formerly of Grasonville, MD) died on October 23, 2015 at her residence. She had recently celebrated her 89th birthday. Violet was born on September 13, 1926 in Prince George's County, MD. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Potomac Falls, VA. She was the daughter of the late Mamie Barrett Kerby and the late Charles Kerby of Oxon Hill, MD. She had fond memories of her childhood home on the family farm with her two brothers and two sisters. She worked as a baker for many years, becoming the owner of two bakeries in Virginia. After selling the bakeries she began work as a secretary at Embassy Dairy where she met her husband, James Francis Lawrence. The two were married on May 2nd, 1969. She was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, step-mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and great great-aunt. She was lovingly known as "Aunt Vi" or "Vi" to many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, as well as her step-children, James F. Lawrence, Jr. and Mary Ann Campbell. She is survived by her grandchildren, Anne Jenkins, Matthew Lawrence, Shelley Owens, and Robert Campbell; her step daughter-in-law, Louise Lawrence; her nephews and nieces, including Ann Schierer, Lieser Metzger, and Anita Cross; as well as her great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews, and great great-nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Oct 27th, 2015 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, located at 46639 Algonkian Pkwy, Sterling, VA 20165. Her great-nephew, Fr. William B. Schierer, will celebrate the Mass. Interment to follow at 2pm at Stevensville Cemetery in Stevensville, Maryland.
