I just learned of my friend and former co-worker's passing today. To Tom's family please accept my belated condolences for your loss. I worked with and for Tom on the Interstate Route H-3 Tunnel Finish contracts in Hawaii. I have many memories of Tom's jovial and quirky personality, his strong engineering skills and ability to get the job done.
While we didn't always see eye to eye on things I always knew that he had the best intentions and had a love for his family and friends.
Hopefully after the passing of time that you have found peace and solace in remembering him as I hope to have. Wishing you the very best.
Aloha

Tom and I were assigned to the MARTA project in the early 80's, doing maintenance investigations for Tom Buchanan. There were no large rail line investigations going on at that time, so it was just Tom and I. We had a lot of fun running around the city, doing small hand auger investigations and reading old ground water observation wells to maintain an historic database of the water levels for MARTA. We solved a lot of small problems for MARTA, including looking at challenging areas for seepage and stability.
Tom was one of the smartest guys I have worked with. I always told him that he should have been a lawyer! Tom was a great tunnel engineer. He loved tunneling - that type of work gets into your blood.
I was shocked to hear of his passing and particularly sad that he closely follows the deaths of Bruce Cavan and Gary Rhodes.
My best regards to Mary Meurisse and the kids. Tom will obviously be missed by many people.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I met Tom in Chattanooga, TN when he was working on a tunnel project for the City. We both talked about our days growing up in Ohio and how life had taken us across the country and beyond. He was a great engineer and project manager. I learned a lot from him and considered him a mentor. We only knew each other for a little over a year, but that was more than enough time to realize what an amazing person he was. He will be greatly missed.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Tom's death this past Sunday. I saw him at church just that day when he stopped to check up on me, which is something that he always did whenever he saw me after my son's death in June of 2010. He was involved with the youth program at UUCF when my son, George, was in high school. I'm fairly sure that he accompanied the kids to Romania that year. He and Julie and her husband stopped by our house after the memorial service. It helped us to know that people cared about George and we want you to know that we cared about Tom. He was a great guy and he'll be missed.

Dear Family: So sorry to hear of your loss. One of Tom's greatest legacies would be two wonderful creative children, Andrew and Julie of whom he was most likely very proud. May you all be surrounded with peace, love and blessings in the days ahead.
