Obituary of Walter Patrick Lysaght

Walter Patrick Lysaght Walter P. Lysaght of Reston, Virginia, passed away on December 16, 2015. He was 86. Mr. Lysaght was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He attended Central High School, where he played basketball, and where he met his future wife, Edie, who was a cheerleader at the same high school. Upon graduation, Mr. Lysaght joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served for four years at various bases during the Korean War era. He was honorably discharged with the rank of S/Sgt. In 1952, he attended the University of Richmond where he was a member of the varsity basketball team for four years. At U of R he achieved All-State and All-Conference recognition. He is a member of the school's Hall of Fame and is one of the two players in the school's history to have accumulated over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during his career. He also holds the record for the most rebounds in one game (35) in the school's double overtime win against the University of North Carolina in 1953. He graduated in 1956 with a BA degree in Economics, and he was a Phi Beta Kappa scholar. Upon graduation, Mr. Lysaght joined the C&P Telephone Company of Virginia, a subsidiary of AT&T. He served in various management positions in Richmond, Norfolk, Newport News, Northern Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, and New York. He retired from AT&T in 1985 with 29 years of service. Mr. Lysaght is survived by his wife, Edie, of 62 years, two daughters, Cindy Glover (Richard Hooper) and Susan Schwartz (Tim Grace) of Reston, Virginia, and a son, Richard Lysaght (Rosalie) of Front Royal, Va. A third daughter, Leslie L. Houser, passed away in 1993 at the age of 31. Mr. Lysaght also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Brooke G. Brown (Kerry), Ryan Hayes (Victoria), Tom Hayes (Sarah), Michael Glover, Dr. Alex P. Houser, Paige Welch (Nathan), Kate Houser, Jordan Lysaght (Eric), and Patrick Lysaght. He was also blessed with eight beautiful great granddaughters. A memorial mass will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, December 21, 2015, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Road in Reston, VA. Interment will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either the Marine's Toys for Tots or Capital Caring Hospice.
