Harriett Jane Kerr, 86, of Sunrise Senior Living at Fair Oaks, Fairfax VA, passed away on December 26th 2015. Jane was born at home on a small dairy farm in Mannington WV on November 28, 1929. She was a graduate of Mannington High School, and earned her RN at the nursing school of Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV. While in nursing school, she met the love of her life, John Kerr, and they married in 1951. They enjoyed a wonderful 63 years together before his death in September of this year. John and Jane had lived in Prince William County VA since 1962, first in the Marumsco Hills section of Woodbridge, and years later in the River Ridge community in Lake Ridge. They traveled the world together as part of his work as an engineer which was a big thrill for a girl from the country. Prior to the birth of her first son, she worked as a pediatric nurse in hospitals in Morgantown and Williamson WV, and Alexandria, VA. Jane was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was proud to have raised three successful, well-educated, good c itizens of the world. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys in life and a role in which she truly excelled. Once her nest was empty, she volunteered and worked part-time at the Potomac and Chinn Park Libraries in Prince William County. She was immensely pleased that her granddaughter decided to follow her lead and become a professional librarian. She was active in CCD and the Women's Council at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Woodbridge. She loved doing all kinds of arts and crafts. Collecting was another interest that manifested itself in frogs all over the house (never the real kind), angels, and four wall cases of thimbles that were gifts and remembrances from her travels. Once she became of age, she joined the Royal Red Hatters in Lake Ridge, decked herself out in red and purple and had a grand time doing what she wanted with great friends. She is survived by a brother and his wife, Robert and Norma Hibbs, and a sister, Ann Jones, all of Mannington, WV. Additionally, she is survived by a son John Kerr, Jr., of Falls Church, VA, and a daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter , Janice, Kurt and Bridget Ryan, of Chantilly, VA. Survivors also include two nephews, Rick Jones of Wilmington, NC, and Lance Jones of Watkinsville, GA, and two nieces, Terry Ash and Sherry Bonnette, both of Mannington, WV, and several great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 10-11am on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Adams -Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St, Herndon, VA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 noon on January 2,216 at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 3460 Centreville Rd, Chantilly, VA. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests any donations be made to Friends of Potomac Library, 2201 Opitz Blvd, Woodbridge, VA.
