Veerappan Kuppan Chettiar Lived from: August 7, 1940 - January 2, 2016 Place of Birth: Rayavaram, Tamil Nadu- India Place of Death: Great Falls, Virginia Veerappa Chettiar,75, passed away peacefully in his sleep early morning on Saturday, January 2, 2016. Although he has struggled with heart problems over the years, he never let that deter him from living life to the fullest. He fought to stay cheerful and positive through all of life's challenges. He is warmly remembered as a devoted husband, affectionate grandfather, supportive father, loving uncle, and caring brother. He was born in a remote village in Rayavaram and went on to become a successful business man in Attur, where he lived with his family for 40 years. He was known as a man of all trades — financier, restaurateur, and an owner of multiple small buisnesses. He was a leader in the community through his contributions to Lions Club International, a non profit organization which combats hunger and poverty. He also served as the trustee for the Paganeri Nagarathar temple upon retirement. He enjoyed the last few years of his life in Northern Virginia with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Even after retirement, he continued to share his zest for life by being an active member of social media and staying in touch with hundreds of friends around the world. His friends still speak fondly of his informative and meaningful posts on Facebook! His family has supported him through his multiple hospital stays and surgeries. Hence, they feel strongly towards raising money for Dr. Tom Catena, who dedicates his life towards providing medical help for the less fortunate people in the remote African region of the Nuba Mountains. We are sure that he would be extremely proud to support this worthy cause.
