Robert M. Truitt, Consulting Executive
Robert M. Truitt, 77, a fourth generation Washingtonian, and executive with several area consulting firms, died January 7, 2016 at his home in Reston. He succumbed to heart disease, kidney failure, and cancer. Mr. Truitt was a 1956 graduate of Gaithersburg High School, where he excelled in athletics, earning 11 Varsity letters, a record at that time. He held a degree from the University of Michigan, which he attended on a scholarship, through the General Motors Institute program.
He was a founder, and second president of the Montgomery Village Sports Association in Gaithersburg. He was also an avid golfer and member of the old Green Castle Country Club in Burtonsville, and a longtime member of the Hidden Creek Country Club in Reston. He served for many years as a Director of the Touchdown Club of Washington, where he was responsible for the annual golf tournament, which raised significant funds for local charities.
Mr. Truitt was born January 11, 1938 at the old Sibley hospital in the District. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nellie, and three children: Steven Truitt of Leesburg, VA, David Truitt of Great Falls, VA and Daniel Truitt of Bethesda, MD, and two step children, Ruth Davis of Fairfax, VA and Earl Davis of Alexandria, VA. His daughter, Debra Cox, preceded him in death. Mr. Truitt is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Amanda Truitt, Jessica Truitt, Sean Cox, Christine Erhardt, Paige Truitt, Jordan Truitt, Ashley Truitt, Chloe Truitt, Brooke Truitt, Avery Truitt, Jason Pratt, Julie Pratt, David King, Amanda King and one great grandchild, Tyler Erhardt. His marriage of 20 years to Edith Fern Wray (Fern Truitt) ended in divorce.
His career with various area consulting firms in the Washington area spanned over 40 years. He was a Vice President and Partner at Booz, Allen and Hamilton, Co- Founder and Partner at Ferguson, Bryan and Associates, Division Director at Statistica, Inc. (Now SI International) Senior Vice President at Base Technologies, Inc. and Senior Vice President with Microlink LLC.
The entire Truitt family, especially Mr. Truitt's wife Nellie, gives heartfelt thanks to the staffs at Reston Hospital, DaVita Dialysis Center in Reston, Capital Caring Hospice, and especially Mr. Truitt's primary care physician Mark Vasiliadis M.D. All of these people demonstrated special dedication, personal care and professionalism during Mr. Truitt's illness.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a celebration of Mr. Truitt's life at Hidden Creek Country Club in Reston, VA on the evening of Friday, January 22, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
