Obituary of Mabel Jean Young

In Memory of Mabel Jean Young Mabel Young, 65, of Herndon, VA passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2016 after a long fight with dementia. In her final days, she was surrounded by family, her friends at Insight Memory Care Center, and loving in-home aides. Mabel was a wonderful woman who would do anything for just about anyone. Mabel was born on May 12, 1950 in New Castle, PA, daughter of William and Nesta Blews. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 plus years, C. Edwin Young, of Herndon, VA; daughter Kristina Bohn and her husband Lucas of Reston, VA; son William Young of Broomfield, CO and his wife Kate; granddaughter, Elliana Bohn of Reston; grandsons Kyle, Ryan, and Aaron Young of Broomfield. Raised in New Castle, PA, she graduated from New Castle High School in 1968. She earned her BA degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA in 1971. Mabel began working as a third grade teacher in Garner, NC where her classroom was the auditorium stage, the only space available. After her husband finished his graduate work at NC State, they moved to State College, PA where Mabel worked as a substitute librarian and teacher, was active in the Junior Women's club and devoted to raising her children. She was passionate about Penn State football. In 1985, she moved to Herndon, VA with her family. Not wanting to go back to teaching she started to work for Chuck Anderson, Attorney at Law, as a part-time legal assistant, eventually going full time with Grenadier Anderson. She retired in 2008. Mabel enjoyed her family, traveling, camping, hiking, and wine tasting. She was willing to try any hike, such as the Precipice Trail in Acadia National Park. She drove across the U.S three times with her family. Over the years she traveled to every state in the United States. She did a number of cruises including two to Alaska and one into the Panama Canal. She also traveled to Europe six times. She loved the winding streets and restaurants of Prague. A celebration of Mabel's life will be at 10:00 AM, April 16, 2016. The service will be held at Community of Faith United Methodist Church, 13224 Franklin Farm Road, Herndon, VA. Following a brief reception, interment will be at 2:00 PM at the EcoEternity Forest at Camp Highroads, 21164 Steptoe Hill, Middleburg, VA.
