Please share a memory of Florabel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florabel Schmidt was called back to heaven on Feb 2, 2016. She was the loving wife of Sheldon Schmidt and mother of Theresa Elise, Scott Sheldon and Randall David. Flo was born in 1930 and grew up in new London Connecticut with her older brothers Clayton and Gordon, older sisters Ruthe and Betty and younger brother LeRoy Augustus Nash the 2nd. All have pre-deceased her. She was a graduate of Williams Memorial Institute and attended Mitchell College. Though primarily a stay-at-home Mom, Flo worked for the State Department, a congressman on capitol Hill and as a dental assistant. She surprised medical science by surviving 3 bouts of bacterial meningitis over her life. Flo sang with the Sweet Adelines, including a recording in 1965 at the Watergate floating amphitheater. She was an avid first mate to her husband, the captain, on a number of sailboats, including living on board for a year. Flo lived in Springfield for 22 years then retired to Florida for almost 30 years before returning to Northern Virginia. Along with her husband, they liked to entertain with family and friends. She enjoyed a martini or a Manhattan. In addition to her children, she leaves 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
