Erin, Tim , you're entire family--I am so sorry about the tragic loss of your son. There are no words to express the loss that you must be feeling and I'm sorry that I am just now realizing that Jay was your son or I would have sent my condolences sooner. I just read the article in the newspaper (that's how I made the connection) regarding the events and lack of action leading up to that horrible day. Both of you are brave and just for what you are doing--leaving a legacy for your son, demanding accountability and change to try and help those whose need it and put an end to this horrible choice that can never be taken back. You have so much support moving forward, including my family's, I wish you both nothing but love, peace and support through this journey. I wish there was something I could do.

To the Gallaghers, my heart goes out to you as you mourn the loss of your wonderful son Jay. I taught him Sunday School for years at CLC and never forgot him. His smile would light my mornings and his questions kept me on my toes! He was so caring and bright and helpful. Words cannot bring much solace, but I hope just knowing that people even back in Jay's past are praying for your family and mourning with you brings a tiny bit of brightness to a dark time. May your memories keep you company.

I was Jay's sixth grade English teacher. I looked forward to my first block class because of Jay. Not only was he upbeat, funny, and studious, but he also was respectful. I saw him yearly when RBMS brought the eight graders to Potomac Falls, and looked forward to hearing him espouse about golf and himself. I will miss him and never forget him. He made me a better teacher.

Dear Gallagher Family, Jay was such a joy and we so enjoyed watching him grow up. I still remember the first time he came to discuss mowing our lawn. For the past five years we counted on Jay and he was tedious in the care of our yard and I was always so happy to see him. His wit and dry sense of humor was always refreshing. Clearly he was a true leader and stand up person. May your grief be softened by knowing how many people he touched and how special he was to so many. We, like so many are praying for your family. When I started a Countryside Cubscouts Tiger Den, Jay was one of its first members, along with my son, Jack. Jay's energy, inquisitiveness, and humor made leading that den so much more vibrant and fun. We think of Jay with so much fondness, and his smile and spirit (and the laughter) is what I will forever remember of my brief time in his life. Love and prayers to you all.

I was in the SOFA improv troupe with Jay. Right from the beginning of auditions, I could just tell he was someone everyone else admired. When I got a callback he stopped me in the hall to make sure I'd seen, then high-fived me. He was so welcoming, and made me feel right at home. Immediately, I felt nothing but love for this new person who was so completely confident and loving towards others. I knew right away that I wanted to be his friend, and I just wanted him to think I was cool. Every time I put something new on Snapchat I found myself checking if he'd seen it every minute. I still do that just out of habit.
I was so upset that I was a freshman and he was a senior because that meant we didn't have classes together. SOFA practice twice a week was not enough! Every morning, me and my friends would walk around the school, partly because we didn't have anything to do, and a bigger partly because I really wanted to run into Jay so I could have an excuse to talk to him. Any encounter with him truly brightened my day. He drove me home from practice on his 18th birthday. One of my favorite memories was that we sat on opposite sides of the cafeteria, but we could both perfectly see each other's faces. Sometimes there would be a moment where all the pieces would fall into place and we would make eye contact. What followed were a series of weird faces made at each other that I like to believe only we saw.
The last scene we performed together in a show was a lot of fun. Our moderator was asking for suggestions and the question he asked was, "What's something Jay looks like he would be good at?" It got so loud. The audience just erupted into "GOLF! ENGINEERING! HOCKEY!" Right then our moderator got flustered because he hadn't thought about what Jay WASN'T already good at. Eventually he settled on hula hooping. We performed a hula hooping contest with no hula hoops. I totally won, though. Imaginary hula hooping is probably the only thing I could ever beat Jay at.
Jay was an amazing person and will be missed by everyone who knew him. In SOFA he cared for each and every one of us, so we called him our dad. That's what he will always be.

Jay was my best friend, and that was for many reasons. He was a great guy, always hilariously funny, really smart, and knew how to make memories one simply never forgot. He was my closest video game friend, as we usually played together in anything from racing games as teammates to little funny games, always having a blast. I will never forget what Jay did for me. He inspired me from the beginning, before we were even friends, all the way through our time together. He helped me push myself in ways I never thought I could succeed. Jay was an incredible person, and one I think no one will ever forget.
One of my favorite memories of Jay was the day back in the summer that he and I went out to Micro Center to look around and hang out. We took my family's pickup truck and navigated all the way out there. We hung out and probably annoyed the staff to no end while ooh-ing and ah-ing over everything they had. Before we left, we checked out the toys section, and ended up buying a little 50-dollar toy drone after laughing over all the strange things they had. We drove home, laughing and joking about the other vehicles on the road, and went back to his house. We hung out for a few hours, trying to fly the drone and playing around with the plastic tee-ball set that was out in his backyard. Reluctantly, the fun came to an end and I went home, but I don't think I'll ever forget any of the memories I've had with Jay, all of which were at least as fun as this one. Jay will be missed incredibly by everyone.
