I joined IBM in 1961 after also graduating from MSM at Rolla. When I started at IBM, a group of us carpooled from Endicott. The group included Chet, Charlie Swetich, Jimmy Lemon, Don Annis and myself. I appreciated the friendship and advice from Chet and the others during this time.

I've just learned of Chet's passing and I'm very saddened by the news. He and I worked together as election officers for many years and he was an extraordinary Assistant Chief – always helping, always getting it right, and always a very good guy with whom to share a very long day. I'll never forget how an ice storm hit during one of our elections and he and I spent the better part of half an hour helping each other chisel our ways into our cars! Another time, the woman who was supposed to unlock the polling place showed up 40 minutes late, leaving Chet and me just 20 minutes to set up the machines and be ready for voters. Thanks to Chet, there was never any doubt we could pull it off, and we did. I ran into Chet at the library a year or two ago and we caught up on things. I'm so sorry he's gone.

The greatest trip of my life was our journey to Alaska with Barbara, Chester ,Connie and Niel. Betty and I often reminisce about it. We lived in such close quarters in a, RV that when we finally got to a hotel, we only needed one room. It was great fun watching Betty prepare the outhouses for use and talk about quality time together,it was the best. We will miss Chester greatly and know he and Niel have already met up and the campfire is ready. My best friend and we will share that frozen mug of beer again. Bill and Betty Speer

So very sorry to hear about Uncle Chester. I just spoke to him two weeks ago when he called to check on mom. She is at home with hospice care and probably doesn't have the capacity to really understand her brother has left the earth to be in heaven. She is in a state of dementia. Unfortunately I didn't know him as well as I would have liked to, because of the distance between us and everyone's busy life styles. I know that he made his mom extremely proud of his accomplishments in his life. He was a very intelligent, complex man to his sisters Barbara. Connie who preceded him in death felt the same way. God bless you Uncle Chester your work on this earth is done.....and may you have life everlasting!
