TO me, his name was "Pete". He was a special member of the Family, who was always looked up to by Tom and Bob. I held special admirations towards him through my Family connection. I made cookies during the Christmas Holidays for all of the Family, and mailed him packages while he was stationed in Germany. He sent me the Hummel figurine of the Mail Carrier, which I keep displayed. After his years as an Eagle Scout, and spending Summers as a Counselor at Woodland Trails Camp, it seems fitting that he would continue his Life as a Guide at Gettysburg, PA. I am not a creative poet, as is Tom, but I would to add the Lyrics of a song that I feel Pete might like to share with all of You. "Some trails are happy ones, Other are blue. It's the way you ride the trail that counts, Here's a happy one for you. Happy Trails to you, Until we meet again. Happy Trails you, Keep smiling until then. Who cares about the clouds when we're together? Just sing a song, and bring sunny weather. Happy Trails to you, Until we meet again." Roy Rogers With Love, Karen

John was one of the first people I met when I started attending King of Kings Lutheran nine years ago. He loved his family, country, and church. I always had great admiration for John. Especially in the last several years as he fought his battles against cancer. Thank God for the life of John Vollbrecht and everyone who knew and loved him.

John and I were roommates and fraternity brothers in Phi Mu Delta at Wittenberg University. My college years with John hold some of my fondest memories and will be cherished forever. John had the ability to make people around him laugh and feel good. He was always positive and never burdened others with his problems. This attitude served him well during his life and especially in defeating the numerous cancers he experienced. His courage and indomitable spirit in battling these last two cancers served as great inspiration to us all. He knew the odds were not good but never succumbed to feeling sorry for himself or seeking pity. He remained positive and upbeat to the very end. John loved life and especially his wife, daughters, brothers and friends. Everyone who had the benefit of knowing him was touched in a positive way. John also loved his country and it is most fitting that his name will appear on the "Wall of Honor" at the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, his hometown, and his burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Rest in peace, my brother, and thanks for your friendship, kindness and sacrifice. You might be gone but your spirit will continue to live on. O2 Ernie

We should, every one of us, strive to live the life Jon W Volbrecht lived. Husband, Father, friend, patriot, soldier. John was all of these and more. Kathy I treasure my friendship with John, I am a better person for having known him and I treasure the time I had with him. I wish all the Peace and Joy of the Lord on you and your daughters and I urge you to live your life on. I know John would have wanted you to. Although Vietnam was a horrible nightmare, in the end it brought us together as brothers, as only survivors of that place can be. So I wish you everything good and know this, John is watching over us at this moment secure in the arms of the Lord who loved him and brought him home.
